On her way to and from school Marjorie passed a photographer’s shop and coveted the Kodak Retinette 1A camera displayed in the window. At the time she had a box Brownie. Her father promised her the Kodak for her 21st birthday, but unfortunately died a few months before she reached her majority; however her mother bought it for her, and she used it for years. She now has a Canon SX 270 and produces many excellent photographs, such as the Spring flower studies shown on the cover and in this montage. She first made cards for a stall at a fete in her daughter’s village, then after she retired from John Lewis in 1999, began to produce cards and calendars featuring Melbourn, which she sells in aid of SOAS (Supporters of All Saints).
