2015 Ensemble Program Rehearsals, Tutorials & Concerts

Enriching young lives through the power of music

Since 1967, Melbourne Youth Music has been bringing young Victorian musicians together to participate in ensemble music-making. Through our educational program, Melbourne Youth Music continues to unleash creativity and empower tomorrow’s leaders through dedication and teamwork, ultimately, inspiring our members to reach their potential through music. To date, more than 30,000 students have taken part in our program, with many of our members fulfilling vital roles as leaders in business, arts and the music education community.

Our dream is that music is embraced and celebrated in Victoria, since it is instrumental in building community and developing the best in young people. Melbourne Youth Music is recognised as one of Australia’s leading centres for ensemble music making and training, and a meeting place for young musicians and their families who travel from all over metropolitan and regional Victoria to participate.

We play a leadership role in collaborating with education and music partners to ensure that a high quality music education is available for all students in Victoria.

Welcome to our 2015 Ensemble Program

I am proud to introduce our 2015 Ensemble Program and extend a warm welcome to new and returning members and conductors. In 2015 we welcome a new ensemble, Alexandra Cameron Strings, named in honour of one of Melbourne Youth Music’s founding members, providing an important stepping stone for members between our Melbourne Youth Junior Strings and Melbourne Youth Strings. Each ensemble will have the opportunity to take part in special projects – extension opportunities for participation and performance in the community, beyond the regular rehearsal and performance program. In response to your feedback, we have revised our concert structure to enable regional families to attend, while increasing mentoring opportunities between ensembles. We continue to offer a range of scholarships and I am very pleased to announce $12,000 in travel and fee scholarships for regional students, reflecting our belief that no learner should be excluded from our program based on disability, disadvantage, vulnerability or location. Further information will be available on our website, mym.org.au. Congratulations to the MYM Artistic and Education team and ensemble conductors for developing a refreshing, educational and engaging 2015 program.
