Thesis work in collaboration with Amir A. Karimpoor. All work was done by both students, working collaboratively from conceptual diagrams, to scripting, to renders and 3d models. As we worked back and forward, all material had some contribution from both parties so we could both developed all areas of the project and learn same techniques and skills.
WESTERN RAIL YARD - SITE 2 MANHATTAN, NEW YORK ARQUITECTONICA NY JUNIOR ARCHITECT / DESIGNER CONCEPT DESIGN TO DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
ARQUITECTONICA WORKED AS PART OF A MULTI-DISCIPLINARY TEAM TO CREATE A NEW VISION OF THE 26-ACRE SITE KNOWN AS THE EAST AND WEST YARDS ON THE WEST SIDE OF MANHATTAN. THE SITE IS PART OF THE OVERALL HUDSON YARDS AREA THAT WAS REZONED IN 2005, IN WHICH ARQUITECTONICA WAS ALSO INVOLVED. THE REDEVELOPMENT PROGRAM IS BALANCED BETWEEN RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT, AND INCLUDES A SITE FOR A MAJOR CULTURAL FACILITY AND EMPHASIZES PUBLIC OPEN SPACES STRETCHING FROM 10TH AVENUE TO THE HUDSON RIVER. ARQUITECTONICA WORKED TO CREATE A VISION FOR 26 ACRES OF LAND ON THE WEST SIDE IN A MIXED-USE DEVELOPMENT THAT HAD AN URBAN DENSITY AND ALSO RETAINED A NEIGHBORHOOD CHARACTER. THE CITY WAS LOOKING TO CREATE A THIRD BUSINESS DISTRICT IN MANHATTAN (THE OTHER TWO BEING WALL STREET AND MID-TOWN), AND TASKED DEVELOPERS WITH CREATING A COHESIVE GROUPING OF LARGE-SCALE BUILDINGS, DIVERSE IN THEIR DESIGNS, ACTIVE IN HOW THEY MEET THE SURROUNDING STREET LIFE, AND A POSITIVE ADDITION TO THE NEW YORK SKYLINE.

THE PROJECT IS A HIGH-DENSITY DEVELOPMENT WHICH WILL PROVIDE A FULL RANGE OF SERVICES AND AMENITIES IN THE VICTORIA CROSSING CENTRE NEIGHBOURHOOD. THE THREE-STORY PODIUM PRESENTS ACTIVE FRONTAGES ON ALL SIDES BUILT TO THE SETBACK ALLOWANCES; RETAIL, LARGE COMMERCIAL AND RESIDENTIAL USES PROVIDE PASSIVE AND ACTIVE OVERVIEW AND ESTABLISH DISTINCT PRECINCTS IN THE URBAN REALM. PEDESTRIAN SCALE FACADES WITH FULL GLAZING, WARM BRICK MATERIAL AND WALL LIGHTING ENHANCE THE PEDESTRIAN EXPERIENCE AROUND THE SITE. THE RESIDENTIAL TOWERS ARE STEPPED BACK FROM THE PODIUM TO MINIMIZE THE IMPACT OF HEIGHT AT GRADE AND CONFIRM VIEW CORRIDORS TO ALONG MACLEOD TRAIL.

CONCEPT DESIGN PROPOSAL FOR MIXED-USED DEVELOPMENT INCLUDING RETAIL SPACE, DEPARTMENT STORES, HOTEL, LUXURY RESIDENCES WITH AMMENITIES AND HIGH END DINNING. THE 200-METER-TALL RESIDENTIAL TOWER AND HOTEL PROPOSED WOULD RISE FROM THE PODIUM RETAIL BLOCK OFFERING PANORAMIC VIEWS OF THE CITY. THE PROJECT WAS PUT ON HOLD AND ONLY WAS DESIGNED UP TO 50% SCHEMATIC DESIGN.

22-STORIES APPARTMENT BUILDING ABOVE GRADE WITH A CELLAR LEVEL. THE SITE IS SLIGHTLY UNUSUAL IN THAT IT IS FLAG-SHAPED, A PRODUCT OF BEING COBBLED TOGETHER FROM FOUR EXISTING LOTS. TAKING FULL ADVANTAGE OF THE PROPERTY, THE DEVELOPMENT CONSISTS OF TWO DISTINCT SECTIONS, ONE NARROWER AND SHORTER—JUST 12 STORIES—AND CONNECTED BY A CORRIDOR ON EACH FLOOR TO THE TALLER, WIDER PORTION. INTERIORS SPACES WERE ALSO DESIGNED FOR BOTH OPEN AND COMMUNAL SPACES AS WELL AS APARTMENT UNITS AND CORRIDORS. DESIGNED AS AN SCAPE FROM THE HECTIC CITY THIS HOME INCLUDES A GYM, HOME THEATHER, LIVING AND DINING SPACES AND A CENTER COURTYARD . WITH AN EMPHASIS IN THE INDOOR-OUTDOOR RELATIONSHIP THE HOME IS AIMED TO BRIDGE THE TWO REALMS AND PROVIDE A TRANQUIL AND QUIET SPACE THAT ENHANCE THE VIEWS AND ACCESS TO THE HOME’S JUNGLE LIKE SURROUNDINGS. CONSTRUCTION EXPECTED TO CONCLUDE IN 2021.
