OASIS Collaborative Practice
Concept: The concept for this brief was to write a suite of service messages for Oasis that would be displayed in-store, influenced by the relationship between fruit and women’s body shapes. The fruit concept was initially suggested by my collaborative partner Amy, and we then built on and developed the concept together. We decided to use a question/answer theme to engage with the audience.
After reading the brief, its requirements and fully understanding the target audience, we knew that we could approach the writing of the messages in a fun way. We decided on an A3 poster format to display the messages in-store. The first step was writing the messages, which is something that Amy and I sat down to do together, It was my role to ensure that they were grammatically correct.

Research: For this brief I carried out a large amount of research, which began with secondary and progressed into primary research. I thought it would be a good idea to look at all the ways in which the messages could be delivered and so I looked at the Oasis website and
also visited the Oasis store in Trinity, Leeds to gain a better understanding of how Oasis currently display in-store communication. In the brief there was also an emphasis on how social Oasis liked to be and therefore looked at the social media sites too.

Imagery: The brief asks only for the written messages, but also states that if entrants had ideas about how the messages could be delivered visually then they would like to see them. I suggested that it would be a good idea for our aesthetics to remain in keeping with the
theme of the written messages, and thought it would be a good idea to include imagery of fruit. It was my role to photograph the fruits that we had selected to use when we were writing our messages.
Photography is an area that I am confident in and therefore put myself forward for this role within our creative partnership. Amy was happy with this decision and so I went on to photograph the fruits. I was really happy with how the images had come out and thought that the bright colours all communicated the way in which Oasis like to communicate with their customers. After I had taken the photographs, and looked through them myself, I showed them all to Amy and she was really pleased with how they had come out. We then reviewed the images and selected the ones which we were going to include in the posters that Amy was going to produce. Melissa Hardcastle OUGD503 Studio Brief 2

Development: After the success of the photographs and the A3 posters, I suggested that we could extend our concept and perhaps produce more collateral that would demonstrate how effective the messages could be when displayed in-store. I suggested that we produce
clothing tags that could hang on certain items of clothing in-store that would be appropriate for a certain body-shape. The tags could act as an in-store navigation, aiding the shopping experience and lending support to the delivery of the service messages.
This was a task that I put myself forward for as I already had an Idea of how I thought the labels could look. Overall I am really pleased with the outcome of the labels and think that they are a good asset to the brief. Another additional collateral that was done
was a pocket guide to body-shape, but that was something that Amy completed. We used the fruit images for all of our collateral and applied it to different formats. This ensured that the solutions carried similar aesthetics.

Mock Ups: Below are the mock ups that I produced for one of the YCN submission boards. I went to the Oasis store in Trinity Leeds again to take some higher quality photographs and then produced the mock ups on Photoshop.
Overall I am happy with how the mock ups look, however had I have had more time I would have liked to have perhaps asked a member of Oasis staff if it would be possible to pin up one of our posters and photograph our messages in-store.
