Brief Title : Tigerprint surface pattern competition The Brief : To design a new contemporary surface pattern for either a male or female audience that is appropriate for gift bags and stationary.

This design was chosen to apply to the gift bag as it seemed most appropriate out of the entries created for this competition and submitted. The zigzag lines are a new take on the traditional use of linear design features and bring a youthful quality to the design. The target audience was not very specific which meant that designing was not restricted. The colour combination creates synergy between the youthful design and the tradition of lines present in the surface pattern.

Due to each entrant being allowed to submit up to a maximum of five entries for this competition, it was an opportunity to explore a different approach to creating a new surface pattern. The entry above concentrates on a traditional theme again, but modified by altering the usual perception and colour association. The rose illustrations were created initially by hand rendered drawings, followed by digitalising, and proceeding to alter the colours to black and grey/off-white.
