Top Design Firm Hires New Employee

IRVINE, Calif.— One of the top 100 design firms in the nation, H. Hendy Associates, hired its first marketing director, Patti Breland. She will manage business development activities and oversee marketing plans for the future, said Henri Hendy, chief executive officer. Breland is a graduate from Bassist College with a degree in interior design. She previously worked for the interior design firms Lehrer McGovern Bovis and PMLA completing 20 years in the field. She also worked at J.C.M. for seven years as a project manager where she did facilities planning and development. Breland is an active member of the International Development Research Corporation, the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, and has served for two years with the International Facilities Management Association as secretary. Outside of her career, Breland is a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity in her free time and attends Rolling Hills Community Church, said Hendy. Breland’s role at H. Hendy Associates, is to manage business development activities and work with the design staff to help obtain clients. She begins her position on February 1, said Hendy.


H. Hendy Associates plans to expand to New York and Chicago in the next five years, therefore needs a new marketing director position. The expansion requires a marketing director to facilitate the expansion and ensure success within the company, said Hendy. H. Hendy Associates works with clients such as, Mazda, McDonalds, Microsoft, and Disney Resorts. H. Hendy Associates offers a wide range of services for its clients, from preliminary building and site analysis to post occupancy site evaluations, said Hendy.

Line-X Launches New Product

SANTA ANA, Calif.- A leader in the protective coating industry, Line-X, launches a new ecologically safe product on March 1. Line-X guarantees its new product for life, said CEO J.B. Burtin. The new product, Formula CIF, is a spray-on product that protects holding bins, industrial equipment and operating areas, sidewalks, and stairs indoors and outdoors. The product protects surfaces from the harmful rays of the sun and is impervious to most acids, caustics, and solvents. It tolerates extreme heat and cold without cracking or deforming, said Burtin. The product is made of two compounds mixed and sprayed out at 2000psi at 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Formula CIF dries in five seconds, so it doesn’t drip after applying. The application of the product must be completed by a Line-X employee for $25 a square foot. Formula CIF comes in seven colors and four finishes, said Burtin. Line-X developed Formula CIF for five years with a $1 million investment. Formula CIF has been approved by the EPA and Line-X also plans to release a complete line of new protectant products that are all ecologically safe, said Burtin. !

Workshop for Louisiana 4-H Club Members

SHREVEPORT, Louis.—A workshop sponsored by 4-H Club and LSU will attempt to resolve the top 10 environmental threats to the state. The workshop is available to Louisiana high school 4-H Club members, said Bill Branch, co-coordinator of the workshop. “Building Common Ground” is held at Camp Grant Walker, located 35 miles Southeast of Shreveport. The workshop is held on two weekends, March 4-6 and March 18-20. Students will discuss the top 10 environmental threats to the state in groups. An LSU graduate student will chaperone and facilitate discussions. On the final day, the students will present their findings to the chairman of the Louisiana Environmental Action Plan (LEAD), Anthony Capshaw. A few of the environmental threats to be discussed and researched are offshore drilling, encroachment of wetlands, over fishing, and soundness of levees. Bill Branch and Fred Sanders are the coordinators of the workshop. Bill Branch is a soil quality specialist at LSU Agricultural Center and Fred Sanders is a water quality specialist at the LSU Agricultural Center. It is the very first workshop held by the 4-H Club and the LSU Agricultural center. Tickets are limited to only 100 spots per weekend, it is based on a first come, first serve basis, and

Newport Harbor Art Museum Needs Docents

!

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.— The largest collection of American folk art, valued at $345 million, needs museum docents for tours. The Newport Harbor Museum is opening its new John and Barbra Suttmiller wing that holds the American folk art collection. The wing shows 300 paintings, wood carvings, and sculptures that will be rotated out each year, said Joao Mejia, museum curator. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and must make a one-year commitment to work 20 hours a month, said Hilary Wolf, volunteer liaison. Potential docents also must attend two training sessions May 6 from 7 p.m.-10 p.m., May 7 from 9 a.m.- 12 p.m. and 1 p.m.-4 p.m. All volunteers are needed by April 30 and must attend the coffee reception located in the museum lobby at 10 a.m. on April 30, said Wolf. Volunteers receive free admission to the museum and have access to the museum’s facilities at a discounted price, said Wolf. The American folk art collection is named the Elizabeth Harrison Art Collection. Harrison donated the collection because of her close relationship with the museum and service on the board for 30 years, said Michele Doernte, board member president. An additional donation made by John and Barbara Sutmiller for $60 million made the construction of the new wing possible.

The invitation-only grand opening gala event of the John and Barbara Sutmiller wing will occur on Saturday, May 14. The new wing opens to the public on Sunday, May 15. International Paper Moves Departments to Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tennessee.— The second largest paper producer in the world, International Paper, will add to its $100 million payroll by consolidating two departments for its 1600 employees in the city by 2019, said Robert C. Butler, chief financial officer. International Paper plans to construct a 80,000 square food office building beginning April 8 and will conclude in 2017. After, International Paper will move its accounting sector of the company to the building throughout 2017-2018. In addition, it will move the human resources sector throughout 2018-2019, concluding the entire project in 2019. The construction of the building creates over 100 trade jobs for Memphis. International Paper initiates the further success of the company by consolidating its accounting and human resources departments to one location, Memphis, Tennessee. The gradual consolidation allows no sudden change in population and traffic to the city of Memphis, said Byrnes. International Paper is a worldwide producer of printing paper, writing paper, paperboard, packaging products, and wood products. In 2013, the computer operations department and the finance department moved to Memphis, said Robert M. Byrnes, senior vice president of human resources. There are 250 jobs are moving to the new location, current employees will be transferred, however, some employees may not be offered a transfer, resulting in job openings at In-


ternational Paper. The existing and new paid employees that will be at the new office will greatly impact the Memphis economy, offering benefits to the citizens, said Butler.
