Common Core Language Arts: Speaking and Listening Standards for Literature K–5 (Grades 4/5) Report on a topic or text, tell a story, or recount an experience in an organized manner, using appropriate facts and relevant, descriptive details to support main ideas or themes; speak clearly at an understandable pace. AASL Standards for the 21st Century Learner AASL Standard 1.3.3: Follow ethical and legal guidelines in gathering and using information. AASL Standard 2.1.4: Use technology and other information tools to analyze and organize information. AASL Standard 3.1.1 Conclude an inquiry-based research process by sharing new understandings and reflecting on the learning. MCPS SLM Learner Outcomes: Outcome 6: Students will be able to communicate findings by producing materials in an appropriate format Outcome 7: Students will be able to demonstrate responsible attitudes toward the use of information

Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will to be able to identify steps of the AGOPPE research method, access online databases, and take proper notes for research project. Lesson: Engagement: SLMS Using thumbs up/down, ask students who knows what AGOPPE research method is Activity: SLMS  Walk the student through the AGOPPE research method powerpoint  Show the note-taking video Activity: SLMS Transition to demonstration of accessing online database (Britannica –student addition) Demo all links and tabs in database Activity: SLMS/Teacher Ask students if they know what ‘citing your source’ means, why it is important to cite sources, and MLA/APA format. Show the students that the subscription databases have a ‘citation’ button
