Located in Southeast DC, the Ballou Senior High School building looks like it is falling apart. Old AC units are in the upper windows. The building is surrounded by an ugly chain link fence. Police officers and security guard the doors. Everyone passes through metal detector to enter the building. In stark contrast, Somerset Elementary School is a lovely brick building, surrounded by abstract art and playgrounds. Both building contain dedicated teachers who hope to inspire their students to greatness.
