M

My interest in art and design began at a very early age. Since my childhood I have been surrounded by art and its many expressions. Whether it was when I was around my uncles whom are architects, musicians and graphic designers or in our family trips where I got to experience other cultures. While, my exposure through these art and design became of great interest to me. My family always insisted on doing a career that I will always love, even thirty years from now. I have been lucky enough to have endless support and motivation from both family and friends. Since I was a kid, they always allowed me to help them on their projects, whether it was the architect that would ask me to help him by handing him pieces of his actual models in till they were done, the graphic designer that would download and teach me how to use some of the designing programs or the musician that allow me to create my own beets. As a child, my family traveled frequently. I grew up in Colombia, bur my mother moved to New York so I decided to move here. I lived in Colombia in till the age of 18. I finished high school when I was 15, so before coming here I did a year of graphic design and a year of

RESIDENTIAL DESIGN

design. My experience living in different countries has helped define me as a person as well as a designer. I have had the privilege of traveling to different places in the world. On these trips I would often go to museums, monuments and any other sights of interest. I was always inspired by architecture and art. I would always wonder they way people live and how they were define by their culture. Even now in the present when I travel, I could spend several minutes just observing the smallest details, taking photos and admiring what make spaces and moments so beautiful. Traveling to me is almost the same as designing. It is always a new learning experience, the interactions with others are mostly different, you gain personal enrichment, and they both help you define yourself and you style. My desire to become an Interior Designer, and be able to create spaces that would make other people happy keeps me motivated. I look forward to learn a lot more of the industry in a more real life scenario; while continuing my education and earning a bachelor’s degree in Interior Design.

MARKETING FACILITY

COMMERCIAL DESIGN NEW YORK A successful publishing firm wishes to create it’s own small meeting and marketing facility. The new facility is expected to serve a variety of functions, from in house training sessions to sales and marketing presentations to potential buyers. While maintaining a strongly professional image, this facility is expected to reflect the firm’s success and impress visitors through its design quality.

From a functional viewpoint, the most important planning and design issue is the creation of optimal presentation, classroom, and conference spaces. Special attention should be given to corridor and aisle spaces, since relatively large numbers of people will be entering or leaving a space at one time.

The community-counseling consortium (CCC) has found a new space in which to house its offices and meeting facilities. The space must accommodate the administrative and counseling offices for CCC, a community seminar and conference room, and a Hot Line Center (HLC). CCC is a nonprofit, community- funded organization that counsels both families and individuals in crisis. CCC offers some health care courses, hospice programs, and group interaction seminars. CCC maintains a checkout library, books, CDs, and DVDs available for all individuals. It further offers a reasonably sized seminar room.

The club’s purposes are to provide a meeting place for members, a place to entertain nonmember friends and business associates, and a dining place of predictable fare and atmosphere where one is known. The design program was established after lengthy consultations with the managers of others dining clubs. The overall ambience should be friendly, businesslike, and more formal than informal. Lunch is the major meal of the day. The bar and lounge activity is expected to be limited; again, previous experience indicates that members expect the lunch hour to be limited, without the luxury of an extended midday break. Because the membership is fairly diverse in nature, a strong theme in cuisine or dÊcor is not desired.

LEGEND

A partnership of two pediatricians requires a new office facility. Their practice is neighborhood-oriented, dealing with a complete range of pediatric care. Although the atmosphere should be professional and businesslike, the primary concern in terms of ambience is to create a relaxed atmosphere throughout to minimize the typical anxiety that most people, parents and children, feel when entering a doctor’s office. The practice employs a receptionist/secretary, a medical technician, and a part-time bookkeeper for billing and other business functions. A medical equipment manufacturer has been selected; its representative has prescribed the size and shape of the typical exam room and the nurse’s station.

HOSPITALITY DESIGN

PEARL BATH HOUSE

CONCEPT STATEMENT: Space within a space

CLIENT PROFILE: The process of bathing is not purely physical. At the end of the day the desire to release out stress and emotional loads to feel and be renewed becomes a need; the same way a clam creates a pearl after being harmed by a sand grains. Letting the door open to exploration through passageways and different shapes is easier to find a place to center and relief. With open areas but at the same time containing numerous spaces within, privacy becomes a principal element in the overall design. The layout is a linear design meaning the user has to go through all of the rooms and the star point becomes the end line. The program requirements are as follows; entry and waiting area, locker room (male/female), plunge pool, warm pool, hot pool, sun- room.
