The architectural process rises with the idea of two volumes, one public and one private that are fostered by a courtyard; these two shapes engage in dialogue through a connecting bridge, giving birth to areas for semi-public activities. The boxes were broken down to promote spaces for outdoor activities, generate a visual distinction from the serving areas, lighten the house’s corner and inspire a visual journey towards its main access.

Multifamiliar La Primavera
Located 700 meters from the ITESM campus, facing a lineal park and a plaza, this project seeks to take the most advantage from the context in order to generate public space continuity. The design provides two cores, or courtyards, from which the shape is then born, taking into account the views and creating semi-public spaces. The free plan of the ground plan helps articulate, yield an architectural promenade, a meeting point, and a multipurpose space. The project is divided into modules dictated by the structure, where each module is then further divided into two duplex apartments.

The challenge for this course was to design a project following the MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, & Plumbing Engineering) methodology, contemplating the necessary spaces for building facilities since the beginning of the design process. The form came to be based on its relations with the existing buildings, generating three volumes, one of which stretches to create an office tower and shadow play while the central box reduces its size giving place to a green roof that serves as a link between the office space and the commercial premises. Afterwards, the boxes were broken down in order to host terraces and open up to a plaza in the ground level, entwining the whole project.

Centro de Diabetes
Existing
Project
This project involves the restoration of a Diabetes Clinic in Monterrey’s city center. After visiting, the idea of the project came directly from the materials used in the construction and on the nerby buildings. The structure is reused, making minimal changes to uncover the existing materials, and the intervention closes some spaces and opens others looking for a better flow and use of space. The interior is redistributed to make space for all the spaces that the user specified that they need. The project works around two patios, one semi-private at the entrance, which serves as shelter from the street and one private at the center of the program. The original building was a house built in the fifties and has been intervened 2 times in the past.

The purpose of this project is to invigorate the creek’s channel and provide it with a higher flow of people, regenerating the area of “La Campana” through an intervention along the creek. After a thorough analysis of the site and its surroundings, we found plenty of strengths in the area that where enhanced via a plan that focused on distinct zones of the project. The Project arises from a grid coming directly from the site, the buildings near the creek and its ever-changing section. This webbing adapts itself to the location, growing bigger where there’s open spaces –such as parks and empty lots– and smaller where the space demands it. Having traced this grid, we decided to play with it in a tridimensional way, leading to a design based on slopes and platforms, varying materials and textures to create a promenade. Both the start and the end point of the intervention collide with important avenues, hence the placement of recreational areas that aim to attract people towards them; these spaces are as dynamic as outdoor theaters, mazes, and inviting platforms. In the lower branch, we found the street to be packed with local businesses so, in order to favor them, we generated extensions of the shops in order to develop new ones and consolidate some of the existing ones. In the central area, we found some great parks, schools, and dining halls, leading us to create a central spot in the project, a place more serene and tranquil where nature dominates hand in hand with meditation and calmness, accompanying itself with diverse acoustics and a botanical garden.

The accessibility Project in the San Francisco development, aims to solve the transportation problem that floods the area. Based on the site’s analysis, we found the neighbors tend not to care deeply about the conservation of public spaces such as parks, alleys, and sidewalks. The project consists of regenerating the development’s sidewalks taking into account the existing interventions as well as the ones that may come in a near future. This settlement collides with one of the city’s main arteries, Ave. Morones Prieto, with quite a heavy vehicular traffic. In order to give both automobiles and pedestrians a dignified space, we generated plazas along one of the street lanes, always keeping in mind that some of the businesses and houses there need access to vehicular parking spots. Through the use of different textures and colors, we proposed a set of guidelines that would allow the users to behave according to the public space they perambulate. The painting sets a rhythm that interacts with the urban space, subsiding whenever it comes near parks or more open spaces along the promenade, signalizing this space as a recreational or resting area; the project generates a feeling of belonging and identity amongst the occupants of the development at the time it provides them with a series of dignified crosswalks.
