Handout Information Born in Santa Fe de Bogota, Colombia in 1971 and raised by French parents, Haider Ackermann has lived in various cities in North Africa and France. After high school graduation in the Netherlands, he attended the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium; however did not finish his education to gain experience working for several designers. Haider Ackermann presented his first collection at Paris Fashion Week in March 2001. Finding much inspiration from Yves Saint Laurent, a connection can be seen between the two designer’s aesthetics, especially in the masculine femininity and sensuality of Ackermann’s designs. Other prominent elements within his designs include: rich colors and textures, architectural draping, sobriety, and strength. It is also evident throughout his collections that much inspiration is drawn from his culturally diverse experiences.
