What Has God Given You? When I was a child it seemed like my father was performing a baby dedication every other month. Of course I know that’s not the case. But there was a phrase I remember him saying all the time, “this child is a blessing from God”, or “this precious gift that God has given you.” Today, I wonder how many people see their children as a gift from God? Or do they even know what that entails? In fact, they are more like a gift on loan to you. God has lent them to you for a moment. He has entrusted you to “train them up” to live out His purpose in their lives.

Every baby is born with an assignment. But not every child is taught to fulfill their purpose. Many times Christian parents commit a dangerous act. desire to please Him with their whole heart, mind, soul and strength. Let us pray daily for wisdom so we can properly instruct and guide them through life’s journey. No it not easy, but rewarding.

Roman 12: 2a reads, “….and do not be conformed to this world.” This properly means to not Ok, I think I’m anticipating the coming of fall put on the form, fashion, a little too much, lol. Being a person who or appearance of another. It may refer to loves all seasons, I get excited with much anything pertaining to the habit, manner, anticipation as each season approaches. The dress, or style of living of others. new season brings new opportunities, new possibilities and new expectations.

As our students return to school, it’s a change of season, an opportunity to experience so much. There may be apprehensions as they walk into their new class for the first time, see a new teacher and see new faces. But the possibilities are endless. For some parents it will be them who experience the trepidation of letting their little one walk into their new school for the first time. But the conversations that are to come in the next few weeks will open up to a new level of relationship for the parent and child. In a way, this new experience becomes a harvest festival of life, much like the wonderful autumn festivals. No matter what uncertainties, problems, fears, uncomfortable adjustments, this wonderful experience makes the “grey skys” a mer backdrop to a grand experience. To all of the students, my prayer is that you will have a blessed and safe school year. Take in all of the “sights and sound” that you can. Remember that the only barrier is the one you place in front of you. With God, this will be the most exciting year for you. Parents, cover your children each day as they head out into the unknown. Never cease to pray for the gifts that God has given to you. Together, this is going to be a great festival for you.

Mel A. Perry, Editor In Chief 2

Yes, I can say we have some great children, youth and young adults at NLT that are on fire for the Lord, and are not ashamed of the Gospel of peace. irresistible power desire seizes mastery over the flesh. All at once a secret, smoldering fire is kindled. The flesh burns and is in flames. It makes no difference whether it is sexual desire, or ambition, or vanity, or desire for revenge, or love of fame and power, or greed for money, or, finally, that strange desire for the beauty of the world of nature. Joy in God is...extinguished in us and we seek all our joy in the creature. At this moment God is quite unreal to us, he loses all reality, and only desire for the creature is real; the only reality is the devil. Satan does not here fill us with hatred of God, but with forgetfulness of God. The lust thus aroused envelops the mind and will of man in deepest darkness. The powers of clear discrimination and of decision are taken from us.... It is here that everything within me rises up against the Word of God." At times we feel that it is God who has made us powerless to overcome temptations, not so, but he allows us to face them with the confidence that he can and will deliver us from them all. So this school year keep Jesus in all you do and you will be able to overcome any trial and test that comes your way. You see... when you boil it all down... life is a series of choices. And those choices determine your success and happiness. And if there was ever an area where wisdom is needed... it is in this matter of the new school year.

New Life Temple Ministries Words from our ministries

Ladies of the Light

“A WORD FROM THE LADIES’ MINISTRY” “Fast Drivers” Fast Drivers- going through life without a care in the world, who have no regards of others. Fast Drivers don’t think they will ever be caught. They just keep taking chance after chance, saying these people drive to slow. They say, “I like this. The wind in my hair and the loud sound the car’s muffler system makes. Wow! This is a pretty color, and the faster I go the better I feel. Weeeeeee!” These kinds of people never stop to see that they are breaking the law of the land. Why, because they are not on a drag strip, but the highway in the city. They don’t care who they run over. They will mow down everthing in sight just to feel the speed. They feel like they are in control. But are you really in control? Who’s controlling the speed of the car? Is it the person driving? Think about it. My question is who’s driving you? We move through life so fast until sometimes we forget to ask God to slow us down so we can hear what He is saying. We make hasty and wrong decisions, marry the wrong person when God says wait, quit good jobs out of anger, make large purchases that we can’t afford, and then except God to always help us out of what we’ve got ourselves into. Driving too fast without slowing

down to hear what God has to say about our decisions. These quick decision always, always get us into trouble, people get hurt, and even you may get hurt. Remember there is someone attached to you, you are not alone. Children or a spouse is involved, so don’t make a hasty decision. They just don’t affect you. Get the family involved. We must consult the Lord in everything you do. Don’t be afraid when He says no, or wait. It is always in our best interest, and He will never steer you wrong. God’s word says to “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.” (Proverbs: 3: 5 thru Proverbs 3: 7) So slow down and hear what God has to say. I know you like the speed! Peace and Blessing! Sis. It’s All About Character? Being a youth today isn’t as easy as one might think, or want to think. Sure they have the comfort of a well provided home, caring parents, schools for education, and a

Word teaching church. However, they are faced each day with decisions to make that impact their very souls. Even with Christian values well indoctrinated into them, making the right judgment call can be scary. Evil has a way of presenting even the ugliest of frogs as a handsome prince. Entertainment, movies, and music is quietly corrupting their thoughts, and changing their thought patterns. Drugs are definitely a way of life. Our youth are being step up for failure by the low expectations that our culture has placed on them. Rick Warren once did a study of youth who were asked, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Not one child said, "I want my gifts, talents, abilities and opportunities to serve others." So what do I say to our youth to encourage them to set an example of godliness to others? How can this be done without carrying a sign that says, “I am young, but I am living for Jesus.” My words to you comes from 1 Timothy 4:13, and it reads “Let no one despise or think less of you because of your youth, but be an example (pattern) for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.” (APM BIBLE) These words were written by the Apostle Paul to a young preacher named Timothy. Timothy was the pastor of the church in Ephesus, and because of his age, some of the members believed him too young to lead effectively. They thought him too inexperienced, immature, or otherwise unable to meet the challenge before him. continued on page 7

but also the way we see things within our own lives and world. The challenges before for each student will help us, not make us fall. Regardless of how extraneous I may think a class may be, I will be able to take some experience or knowledge from it and apply it elsewhere where it may seem fit. All that I will learn will enable me to grow not just as student but as a Christian too. As new doors open in my mind and as new keys are given to them, my mind will continually stay a limitless sponge. The Baylor experience will be memorable because it combines those life-changing aspects into a radical encounter. The fact that I know I will be able to live it first hand is an honor and privilege. Since I was misfortunate of not attending any prior campus visits, line camp introduced me not just to a college, but it introduced me to the upcoming Baylor experience. Be Blessed!

new cloths...but that only goes so far. Then there is the reality for many. Lazy summer days are gone, and it’s back to getting up early to catch the bus, getting home late and having to once again stare at books for another 2 hours or more. Oh, traveling down memory lane is making me have unwanted nightmares. Just kidding, some what. But there is a wonderful memory that comes to mind. People often comment on my graphic imagination, or my ability to see people and create a whole story about them. That talent comes from those early years in private school. When I was in private school, I can’t say I was a great student, outside of anything that had to do with the Bible. In fact, I was a horrible student in regards to academics. And it was all due to my over active imagination. As I would read my social studies pace, my favorite subject back then, I would find myself visiting the dangerous villages of the Amazon, a remote place in northern China, or traveling down the Zambezi river with a missionary family. I had made these exhilarating voyages before I reached the age of 10. But the draw back of all of these exciting adventures is my school work seemed to suffer. No one seemed to appreciate the value that my experiences would have on my life years to come. I was being exposed to some much, but I was the only one who could see the benefit. My dear parents could only see the great expense it was costing them, and my teachers seemed to think it was affecting my ability to understand the more complex subject - nasty MATH! I hate that subject to this day. Of course I was perplexed by their lack of understanding...”can’t you see how much I’ve learned from these trips?” Of course, there was no one back them to encourage my great gift of imagination or channel it in the right direction. I never had to board a plane to visit a place. I simply allowed myself to mentally enter the worlds I read about. My early school years taught me two things: (1) reading opens up your mind to your possibilities and prepares you to live in it

B

(2) Imagination is a must if you ever plan to go anywhere in life. If you can’t dream about it, then you don’t know what you really can do. If you never allow your God given imagination to show you worlds that are beyond your sight, then they will remain beyond your reach. Before I set foot in Kenya in 2003, I had taken many exhibitions there hundreds of times in my mind and through countless pages. I smelled the dirt, felt the sunbeams on my face, and heard the voices of the people ringing in the streets. Many times I had walked those dusty red dirt roads. Your imagination is a gift form God. Let it expose you to the place God wants to take you. Use it not only for natural things, but let it show you your place in Kingdom work. If you imagine it long enough, eventually you will work to make it a reality.

Character from page 5 Being aware of the problems Timothy was facing, Paul reminded him that character in action would stand the test in spite of his youth. Young people, you must understand that maturity has less to do with age than it does with character. Character displays itself in consistency. Paul reminded Timothy of the role of consistent action as his best advocate in life and in leadership. Through consistent action, he could win over those who would oppose him on meager grounds. His example in character would speak on his behalf. Paul gave to Timothy, as I will give to you, five areas in which you can set an example in your life. They are (1) in speech, (2) in conduct, (3) in love, (4) in faith, and (5) in purity. Two of them, speech and behavior, refer to our public life, what other people see. Being young does not give you a ticket to live a sinful life. The other three areas, love, faith, and purity - they are more inner qualities. But our inner qualities have a way of coming out and manifesting themselves in our public lives. Being young does not excuse you from the expectation of living godly lives. Your attitude should be characterized by the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22, 23). I am encouraging you to develop a character that will indeed be a godly example in everything you do. This way no one can give you a bad report. Have a blessed 2010-2011 school year! Min. Edna Johnson, Director Outreach Ministry
