Paul said it like this, “Be ye a follower of me, even as I also am of Christ.” 1Corinthians 11:1 Before Paul could lead anyone he had to follow...and continue to follow. In other words, in order to go there, you have to have been THERE. If you want to destroy the value and growth of a company, a home, or a church try leading before you learn to follow. IN OTHER WORDS I don’t know if it would be right to say that we are half way through summer, since summer just official began the third week of June. However, it seems that we measure summer by when the children get out of school and when they return. Whether we use the children’s school calendar or the Roman calendar to tell us when summer begins, it feels as if the first month has gone and we are smack dab in the middle of “Summer Time”. For me, summer is not as much about taking trips as much as it is about taking time to just slow down a bit, relax and breath in life. It’s the time of the year when I used to ignore the phone because I was engrossed in some refreshing me time either taking a picnic in the back yard, reading a delicious book or watching a good o’l Black & White classic. I remember just a few years ago I was a pro in the art of R&R. I knew how not to be disturbed, how to just enjoy. I’ve managed to “sip” on a book or two thanks to the new technology audiobook downloads from the city library. I enjoy the relaxing feeling of just sitting back with a good fiction and letting my mind create the story. But I wish I could take in more.

There have been more books written on this subject than the subject of the Antichrist or the social gospel or how to live the Christian life. And still the question is being asked, "Why do God's children suffer?" When suffering causes us to ask, "Why me? Where is God? Why does suffering happen to good people?", we are to look at Jesus' scars and the love for which they are the emblem. This is what Paul is telling us when he wrote, "Who will separate us from the love of Christ?", then declares that there is nothing stronger than Christ's love - nothing here and now or ever to come. So often when we witness, and it seems that nothing being said is making a difference, we leave thinking, “If only…….” Woodrow Kroll, the writer of this devotion, puts it this way: I always have trouble seeing the 3-D images in those pictures that look like nothing more than colorful patterns. You hold them at nose length, stare through them as you slowly move it away from your face and, voila!, the Statue of Liberty (or something like that) appears. Only once have I successfully seen the image. Some of my friends, more adept at staring through pictures, get frustrated that I

Sometimes when trying to convince someone that Christianity is true, we think in "if-only" terms. "If only" Noah's ark were found, then people would believe. "If only" Sodom and Gomorrah were found or this miracle would happen or that thing would appear. We think that indisputable evidence would end unbelief.

Because of the Resurrection we can hope that the tears we shed, the blows we receive, the emotional pain, the heartache over lost friends and loved ones, all these will become memories, like Jesus' scars. Scars never completely go away, but neither do they hurt any longer. We will have re-created bodies, a re-created heaven and earth. Because of Jesus’ resurrection I can say thank you Lord for considering me worthy of the experiences you have allowed me to have, and for the relationship I have with you. So my friends the next time you are going through a possible valley experience, and you begin to wonder “Why me Lord”, consider why he came to die for you and I. Consider why he allowed you to go through what you went through, and what you will receive at the end. You may change your response to “Thank you Lord” instead. Minister Isaac J. Borrowing a question from Philip Yancy, who raised it in his book The Jesus I Never Knew, “Who was this man Jesus? What was he like? Why did Jesus' scars remain?” He answers that Jesus scars remained because they connect him to the pain and suffering that we experience in this earthly life. He chose to become part of our July

Jesus did not just deliver a supernatural gift from Heaven, but gave us a HOLY POWER! Only because of God we win!

Sorry! It applies directly to you. This is not about being a titled leader in the church. This is about being a Christian leader in the body of Christ. Paul often started his greetings like this, “ Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle...” Did you see that? Paul could careless about a title. In fact, he referred to his apostleship as his calling, not his title. His title was “servant”.

July

If he was a servant that meant he was a follower. Guess what? Each of us are born again into servanthood. That means we are followers. And if we are good followers, God will entrust others to follow us as we follow others. And if people are following your Christian walk then that means you are leading someone. There are people who watching our lives to see who we are following. I had to ask myself this, “ What would happen if more of us leaders prayed ‘God help me to be a better follower’ instead of ‘God make me a better leader’”? I think we would really move in sync with the heartbeat of God. When I pray, “ make me a better leader,” it’s about me. When I pray, “make me a better follower,” it becomes about Him. At that moment I loose my need for people to follow me and become a God stalker. I become desperate to know how to please Him and not how to make people want to follow me. In so many of Paul’s writings he talks about loosing himself for the sake of God, the sake of the Gospel. Talk about a God stalker. The man was obsessed, needy, even, for God. Here it is straight. If we loose our egos, as I’ve heard Joyce Myers call it, and just be about serving we will accomplish far more than our need for positions, titles, relationships, collection of places to minster, recognition for a job well done. Let’s forget about the fluff, and just for once become crazy excited about the opportunity to serve...even in the places that may seem beneath us. 9

pastor could make. Now this is a church publication so you will have to follow closely, because we are keeping it clean. Ok, Ok! Here But I have to ask where this dud’s mind was! it is!

Hmm....why are you staring? As if you have never had a weird moment. LOL! Have you ever had one of those moments when you step up to do something with confidence only to realize the thoughts of everyone’s mind, “ Uh, we hate to tell you but that is so NOT!”? It’s like the bad recurring dream just became real. You desperately and frantically, though trying to appear calm, try to swim out of the horrible sinking quicksand you are in. And the more you try the more it just keeps pulling you down. And even though everyone seems to be so over it, you know that if you are still thinking about it...yep, everyone else is too.

The pastor is refreshing the nice sized audience’s mind of the previous week’s lesson of Lot being in Sodom. He tries to say that Lot “pitched his tents”, but the only correct words that came out of that phrase was “his”. Within five seconds he realized he had just given a “R” rated synopses of the last week’s message. The poor guy! No matter how hard he tried to correct his mistake it just got worst. Before long he was red faced. It was a fall flat on your face moment. That’s any teacher or preacher of the Gospel’s nightmare- to have words you never intended to say come out of your mouth.

For a quick spiritual moment, when it happens in church the worst thing you can ever do is lie on God and say that was You a “God moment” and He just wanted to want do something different. Because at the to moment everyone now knows you are really in deep. Oh, guess that wasn’t really spiritual. Anyway, you know what I’m talking about! That moment...that embarrassing moment you had no clue as to how to pull yourself out other than to blame someone, and if it happens at church it’s usually God who get’s blamed. ROFLOL! I just had a few images that came to mind. Yes, yes, yes! I know you are so waiting for me to tell you about mine. But why would I let you laugh at my expense? Well, we will see... First let me share about a youth pastor who made the biggest gaff a male youth July

close your Bible and just say, “I’m out of here! Just let me crawl in a corner and die!” But you have to go on. Even while the horrible story that every one will be talking about, continues to play in your head, you go on because you have an assignment. Now I know some people would say that was the devil. More than likely, not. You try saying “pitching his tents” at full speed. Yep, see you don’t even want to say it now.

or not. But here it is. We have moments when we totally just embarrass ourself. But instead of walking away defeated we have to keep going. I have to give this young preacher a thumbs up. Even though the audience kept laughing and he seemed to be doomed, he kept trying until he was able to continue on with what he had to say. From what I hear, he has gone on to have a very successful ministry. How many people walk away from serving, relationships, jobs, or opportunities because of an “I can’t believe it” moment that happens to them? How many of us have walked away from what we were doing because we made a stupid mistake, whether knowingly or ignorantly. It’s very easy for people now days to become easily discouraged by a moment. And most of the time people are willing to move past the moment if we will. But because of our self-image we blame others for that moment. It’s amazing what excuses you will get from people when you ask them why they won’t get involved, or why have they withdrawn themselves from everyone? Many times you will hear a tale of a moment in their life. A moment where they judged themselves too harshly because they didn’t do it just right. They made a mistake, or stumbled over the speech. Maybe someone unintentionally corrected them a bit sternly in front of others. And from this point on, they can’t move past the “oops” moment. Hey, we have all had them. Some of us have been fortunate that no one else we knew was around. So we kept going. Whatever it is, don’t let your “oops!” keep you from doing what you need to do.

Anyway, I won’t waste time on whether the devil was behind this “gaff moment”
