There is a country song that says these words, “Let freedom ring...it’s

Not only were we made free. But

Independence Day!” To most who are it would be words in a patriotic song. However, the song is dealing with a woman who could no longer stand being oppressed and brutalized, so she takes matters into her own hands. But as most country songs go, there isn’t a real happy ending. And you have to ask yourself was freedom really achieved?

IN OTHER WORDS My, my, my! May and June are gone. Never to be relived again. No matter how much we may wish we could rolled back the clock and live a certain moment or moments over again, it can’t happen. Sorry, no amount of pleading will help you (loughs). This year I made a pack with myself that for my 38th birthday I would try new things, visit new places in the city, and enjoy time with me the whole month long. If I wanted to go somewhere and there was no one to accompany, I would not allow that to keep me from taking in the experience. During the mont of June I got used to taking a table for one, just so I could delight my tastebuds. I was happy to share photos with friends and people on social network of what I was doing and where I was. I was claiming every moment of 38th birthday. Sure there were things I wanted to do, but didn’t. But there were far more things that I did do because I didn’t want to regret the “moment” that passed. That little experience gave me a greater determination to do what I’m always saying. LIVE!

The Fall of Man By Bishop Brenda K. Perry

When I read the story of the fall of mankind, it amazed me that two things are being carried over from Adam and Eve to this day. It’s not a gender thing, nor a blame game. If they would not have fallen, it could have been their children. God has given us a will to serve and love Him. When you read chapter 3 of Genesis, you see they both were together walking in the garden. When the enemy of our soul approached Eve, Adam’s hands were not tied up, nor his mouth cover with tape or glue.

The Power of Hope Luke 1:78-19 By Minister Isaac Bazile

Have you ever seen a Navy Aircraft Carrier and wondered how something that big can be held in place by an anchor that is only maybe one tenth the size of the ship? Have you ever wondered how things in life can seem so huge and impossible to They made a choice, and Adam chose achieve or overcome? Well, I’ll tell to disobey God, and take heed to the you. Hope is the anchor to life, and voice of his wife. (Genesis 3:17). Look the word that keeps us going in all at Genesis 3:11, “…..and He said, who seasons of life. Hope sees the present told you that you were naked? Have you moving towards a good future, even eaten from the tree of which I with all its imperfections. BUILDING ON YOUR FAITH

Faith is the key ingredient in our relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Hebrews 11, verse 6 states, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him”. 1Peter 1:1 states, “that we have obtained like precious faith”. This translated from the Greek word “isotimos” means “of equal value”. There are no first class and second class Christians. Galatians 3:28 reads, There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus”.

Roman 2:11 tells us the God is not a respecter of person. Aren’t you glad about that? In order for our faith to be truly established, scripture tells us that we have to add to that measure of faith that our Lord gave to us. In Romans 12:3 we read, “……. as God has allotted to each a measure of faith”. Tony Evans gave this illustration that gives a great picture of adding to your faith.

added. “KNOWLEDGE” must be added. Peter uses the word “gnosis” for knowledge which is “practical wisdom”. True knowledge is acted out. “SELF CONTROL” must be added. Self control means to control our passions. “PATIENCE” must be added. We, as Christians, must persevere with courage against all odds. “GODLINESS” must be added. Godliness is a life of worship. “BROTHERLY KINDNESS” must be added. We must be affectionate one to the other. We are to add friendship to our faith. Lastly, “LOVE” must be added. Can you believe Peter put “love” and the end? No matter how we add to our faith, unless it is done in our Lord’s love, it is useless.

“Cement, in order to become concrete, must be mixed with sand and water. If bags of cement in a store are never stirred in with water, that cement will never become I encourage you to look at concrete. these building blocks of Water and faith to see where you are. sand must be In which area(s) do you married if need to make you want to improvements? Confession: I enjoy NPR. In fact I listen to s Not ’ NPR, PRI and t a h T “Uh, ture” l local public u C My radio more than I do any other radio station. Lite The d Si e

The strange thing is that though I’m a huge fan of public radio, I don’t financially support them in any way or agree with half of the things I hear being played. I’m sure I’m not the only listener who enjoys NPR’s service while refusing to be a financial supporter. But I wonder how may avid listeners enjoy their local public radio station or maybe they have the NPR or PRI apps on their phone for constant listening pleasure while finding they don’t agree with a large percentage of the content they hear? It’s almost like a Christian going to a Muslim mosque each week just because they admire the beautiful artwork on the dome, the expenses turkish prayer rug or the beautiful voice of the Imam as he prays. LOL! Seriously? It would never happen. However, I have this strange delightful reaction when I hear Cokie Roberts’ voice coming through my radio on a Monday morning. Her voice makes me feel like I’m in a room full of intellectuals.

with 88.1 and work my way down to find the gospel station for my mum and I. I think I first fell in love with public radio back when I was in junior high school. I developed a love for the finer side of music, hmmm. But it was somewhere around the Gulf War that I came to love the “talking” side of public radio. Being that we didn’t have televisions in our home, and KTRH 740 AM didn’t always come in at night, I needed something to feed my need for talk radio news- thanks to my dad. I didn’t pay much attention to whether I agreed with the opinions or slant of the news. I just needed to hear intellectuals ramble on about the world. Now that I’m wiser and know that I stand at an opposing side of a great deal of the stuff they feed my brian, I’m still addicted to my local public news radio station. I’m not saying that I disagree with everything that comes on public radio, but there is a great deal of stuff that comes across my radios that causes me to have a one-sided debate with my radio. Some people may say that is absolutely crazy! However, how many people do the same thing when it comes to issues of morality, our Christian faith, entertainment, or other issues that matter to us? How many of us just accept what we don’t agree with because we are addicted to appeals to our flesh?

Over the last year the issue of homosexuality, same sex marriage, and “bullying” have been pushed into just about every part of our lives. Let’s forget politics for a moment. In the first quarter of the year Starbucks stop hiding behind their “love everybody” agenda and came out and said they would finically support When I travel out of town, the first the same-sex marriage agenda. And thing I want to find when I get into the because they know most pro-traditional rental car is where is the Classical or NPR are addicted to whatever, they would station. Of course when my mum is in the never rally enough people to boycott car with me I have to pretend to look for Starbucks and change the mind of the a local gospel station. However, I’m smart corporate office. enough to know that all public stations start at the top of the dial. So even if the Then a couple of months back JC station is on 107.3 I’ll find a way to start Penny lent their support to the same-sex agenda by showing a tv ad for Father’s I’ve even been known to sleep through hours of NPR’s Morning Edition, while the stories become dreams playing around in my head, only to confuse me when I wake up. “Was I in Belarus yesterday?”

Day with a non-traditional family that had two daddy and kids. Very little outcry was heard. But it didn’t just start...our addiction to accepting what we don’t agree with. For years we have watched shows with non-traditional families (I’m speaking from a biblical sense). How many of our favorite shows have promoted common law marriages (like what is that?) or extreme violence and vulgarity, legalize prostitution (excessive divorce) and the list goes on, and on. Ok, I’m being too deep. So what about the stuff we accept in our personal lives that we know we don’t really agree with, but we have become addicted to them being there or happening? It’s almost like the tragedy of a person who is in an abusive relationship, but when they try to leave they feel like something relevant is missing from their live. There are people who we would be better off, naturally and spiritually, if they could just instantly replace the need for the “bad” person in their life with someone or something else. They know they don’t agree with the lifestyle of their friend, which is also having a negative effect on them. But they are addicted. We treat our bodies like disposals, though we know that what we are eating or doing is harm to ourselves, we are just addicted. Addiction is a powerful little enemy. Most of the time we justify the small good over the much larger evil. When you take the two ideas, choice and addiction, it seems like addiction wins more battles over choice. Does my addiction influence my choice or does the reality that I have a choice give me power to over come my addiction? While I love talk radio, NPR isn’t my only choice. It’s just what I’m addicted to. What about you?
