4 ZILKER PARK CLUBHOUSE Professor: Ernesto Cragnolino
Sited on a hill in Zilker Park overlooking downtown Austin and the nearby Mopac highway bridge, this project was to serve a variety of functions for the community including classrooms and a ballroom. Surrounding two courtyards housing the three existing live oak trees, my proposal features four program pavilions united under one oating roof. With the iconic elliptical ballroom of translucent marble rising up from the datum line of the roof, this space is oriented toward downtown and acts as a lantern from which to see and be seen.

12 STRATFORD DRIVE YOGA Professor: Ernesto Cragnolino Set on a sloped, wooded site on Lady Bird Lake, I designed a yoga and dance studio with locker room and office facilities. Wanting to have the option for multiple uses for the studio space, I created a movable wooden screen system on the exterior of the curved studio and a curtain screen on the interior to reveal or conceal the studio from the lake and views to downtown at the user’s preference. Using the slope of the site, I nestled the locker rooms and office space underground with light wells into the spaces so only the studio is visible to passersby.

Assigned to design a path itinerary connecting the train station in the valley to the Etruscan gate at the top of the hilltown, we sited a community center and public space near the town center and along the axis connecting the station and gate. Weaving our path around the buried program space, we designated the stepping rooftops as public piazzas, with views across the Tuscan landscape.

22 ORGANIC DESIGN Professor: Anthony Alofsin
Beginning the semester with an apple, I explored the proportions and patterns embedded in this organic object and implemented them to create a two dimensional pattern. From this pattern, I utilized computer programs to continue the organic proportions and create a set of rules for growth to three dimensions. Appointing two variables that I combined in different formulas, I created a myriad of possibilities for three dimensional patterns and volumes.

Professor: Dean Almy Team: Shannon Bronson, Adam Grote, Britta Johanson, Kyle Johnson, Jarod Kurzner, Chelsea Larsson, Steve Moore, Noel Ramirez, Melissa Seanard, Enoch Shih, Kasey Turney, Julie Williams, and Yunhui Zhang Aniticpating the growth of the University of North Texas Dallas, this studio focused on programming and planning the surrounding area for projected growth. Around the existing University buildings and underdevloped riparian corridor, our team proposed a DART light rail extension and the inclusion of a street car system to connect the main street and the University grounds to the satellite residential neighborhoods and nodes. As part of the overall scheme, I focused individually on developing a neighborhood on the southeast corner of the masterplan (right) which would include the University Conference Center as well as a variety of housing typologies interspersed with retail and community spaces. The diagrams demonstrate the areas of study for this neighborhood. (left)

[Completed as intern for Merzbau Design Collective] This addition of an upper story mastersuite and a stair tower off of the kitchen focused on retaining the character of the 1930s house while creating clean and modern living spaces for the clients. This model shows a cut-away view of the stair tower addition (left) and several interior views of the new and remodeled spaces. (right)

36 NATURE’S POINT WEDDING FACILITY [Completed as intern for RedArcOne]
Combining French Country and Hill Country aesthetics, this 13,000 sf wedding facility will sit into a hillside on the north side of Lake Travis. In order to test form, material, and the relationship with the site, I completed this model of the interior and exterior proposals. Here I show the main entrance (left), an interior view of the ballroom, and a few exterior views. (right)

As a study of how light falls on a different textures, I completed this white-on-black drawing of a staircase. (left) Drawn from a photograph of bicycle racks outside Goldsmith Hall, this freehand tone drawing inspects the array of light and dark as cast by sunlight and shadow.
