Greenkeeper’s Update

Last month, I wrote about fall being the ideal time to repair or renovate your lawn if you desire to grow cool-season grass such as turf-type tall fescue. Another practice that benefits our turf in the roughs here at BCC is the mulching of leaves throughout the hundreds of acres of property we maintain. The leaves have been falling over the last six weeks, and we use a combination of leaf blowers and mulching to make the leaves disappear. Also, last month we discussed drainage that is being installed on #1 and #2 East. We are making great progress as that work continues. In addition, in November, we repaired the cart path to the left of #6 green and from #11 green to #12 tee on the West Course. We appreciate your patience as we complete this work and prepare for the 2023 season. We wish each and every one of you a safe and happy holiday season. ◆

BENEFITS OF MULCHING LEAVES

IT'S A TIME & MONEY SAVER

Forget about raking and bagging leaves. Simply mow over the leaves. The leaf reside will only last a few days. The leaf particles provide essential nutrients to your lawn.

PROVEN TO DECREASE WEEDS

Decomposing pieces of leaves cover up bare spots between turf plants that are an excellent opening for weed seeds to germinate. In just three years, this practice is proven to decrease the growth of dandelions and crabgrass by nearly 100%!
