Small Group session Performing SWOT analysis, Identifying strategic goals, Formulating one SMART objective Instructor: Prof. Yasser El-Wazir Time: 90 minutes Assuming that you are the director of the health economics office in the MOH, and you have already developed your own vision and mission, which can be something like: (Small groups can modify the mission and vision statements) Mission: Provision of consultancy services to the MOH on health economics and related health policy issues
Vision: Optimum allocation of resources for better health
Assignment of the small groups
Reviewing mission and vision statements
15 minutes
Based on the above vision and mission, scan your internal and external environments using the SWOT analysis (write 2-3 items in each one of the four sections of the analysis). 40 minutes
Based on the SWOT analysis, list 5-6 broad areas that your team can work in, to achieve its mission. Then, identify the three most critical priorities among those areas (strategic goals). 20 minutes
In the context of one of these strategic goals, write down 3-4 specific actions, and formulate one of them as a SMART objective (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-bound). 15 minutes
