UNIVERSITY OF MEMPHIS

SERIES HISTORY -- TIGERS VS CINCINNATI This is the 46th meeting between Memphis and Cincinnati. The Tigers lead the all-time series, 31-14, but the two teams split their series last season, with each team winning on their own home floor. The Tigers won 53-47 at their last home regular season game last year on senior day against Cincinnati thanks to 24 points from Ariel Hearn. Memphis is 15-5 all-time against Cincinnati in games played in Memphis. The last Bearcat win in the Bluff City was back in 2004-05 (58-56). FUQUA-BEY NAMED TO WEEKLY HONOR ROLL Junior forward Asianna Fuqua-Bey was named to the American’s weekly honor roll after back-toback double-digit games on the road last week. That marked her fifth and sixth double-digit games this year and just the second time this season she has strung together back-to-back double-digit outings. Her 18 points in the loss at Tulsa was a season-best and missed her career high by just three points. She was 9-for-11 from the field (shooting 81.8 percent) and upped her scoring average to 9.0 ppg for the season. She also added seven rebounds, including five off the offensive glass, in the loss. She has scored double digit points in three straight games one time before (last season). Fuqua-Bey is the fourth different Tiger to earn a weekly honor roll mention this season (Ariel Hearn, Breigha Wilder-Cochran, Mooriah Rowser). HEARN PLAYS FULL 40 Junior guard Ariel Hearn might be feeling the absence of Breigha Wilder-Cochran more than anyone else. With Wilder-Cochran missing the last three games with a hand injury, Hearn has started the last two games at the point. After playing in 40 of 45 minutes in the overtime win over East Carolina, she played 35 of 40 minutes in the win at UCF and in all 40 minutes in the loss at Tulsa. Prior to Wilder-Cochran’s injury, Hearn had played 35 minutes in five of the Tigers’ first 13 games. Since the injury, she has played 35 minutes or more in 3 of 3 games. CREIGHTON ON A SCORING STREAK Freshman post Cheyenne Creighton scored a career-high eight points in the loss at Tulsa. In the two road games last week, she was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field, averaging 7.0 points and 2.0 rebounds in the two games. The Tigers need points off the bench. Memphis is 0-2 in conference play and 3-7 on the season when getting out-scored by the opposing bench. Part of that is scoring more, but the other half is knowing the scouting report and keeping opposing players from scoring when they check in. At Tulsa, the Golden Hurricanes changed up their starters and brought two players off the bench who had been starting. That helped lead to a 40-14 scoring advantage for Tulsa in the win. BENCHMARK POINTS Speaking of scoring off the bench, a couple of Tigers are looking for some personal benchmark points heading in to the Cincinnati game. Courtney Powell is three points from her 100th career point, while Breigha Wilder-Cochran is two points from 300. Mooriah Rowser is working her way to 500 career points. She is currently at 453 (47 shy), while Ariel Hearn is 47 shy of her 1300th career point. HEARN LOOKING TO MOVE UP SCORING CHART When Ariel Hearn does reach that 1,300th career point, she will also move to 17th on the Tigers’ career scoring list. She is currently 18th, 46 behind Victoria

Crawford’s (2002-2005) mark of 1,299. Hearn scored her 1,000th career point in the season opener this year, becoming the fifth-fastest player to 1,000 career points in Memphis history. In a pair of games against Cincinnati last year, Hearn scored 18 points and 24 points (21 ppg average), so expect the Bearcat defense to have a plan for her on Wednesday night. BEYOND THE ARC In the Tigers’ first two games of the season, five different players (Hearn, Rowser, Williams, Creighton and Wilder-Cochran) landed a three-point field goal. So imagine the Tiger coaching staff’s surprise to be heading in to game 17 of the season and have just one player with double-digit three point field goals made (Hearn with 37). 71 of Memphis’ 371 field goals made this season have come from beyond the arc. Last year, Ariel Hearn knocked down 69 triples all on her own. Granted, that just missed a single season school record, but the Tigers’ getting just 19.1 percent of their offense from beyond the arc has slowed down the offense. Speaking of Hearn’s threes, the junior hit 2 of 8 tries from beyond the arc in the loss at Tulsa to move to 133 career three point field goals made, moving her out of a tie for 8th in the school record book (w/ Kelly Herron, 1995-2001) and moving her to 8th place alone. She needs four more to tie Tamika Butler’s (20022006) mark of 137 that currently sits in seventh place. Hearn has taken a huge chunk of her field goal tries from beyond the arc. This year, she has taken 44.7 percent of her shots (101 of 386) from three-point land. As a freshman, she made 26.2 percent (27 of 154) of her attempts there and as a sophomore, 37.3 (69 of 197). BALANCED BENCH The win at UCF last week also marked the fifth time in 15 games this year that the Tiger bench out-scored their counterparts. With the 21-14 advantage off the bench, Memphis has gotten more points from its bench than it opponents for a second straight game. The Tigers are 4-1 when their bench out-scores the opposition. The 70 points the Tigers scored in the UCF win was the most points the team has scored in 10 games and marks just the third time this year the Tigers have scored 70 or more points. Memphis is 2-1 when they score 70 or more points. HEARN NAMED TO AMERICAN WEEKLY HONOR ROLL Junior guard Ariel Hearn was named to the American Athletic Conference weekly honor roll after scoring 26 points in the overtime win over East Carolina. Hearn passed the 1,200 career point mark in the ECU win and her 26 point effort was her 21st career 20-point game. It was her first 20-plus point game since scoring 20 or more in three straight games (Minnesota, Southern Illinois, UALR). She is the third Tiger to earn a spot on the conference’s weekly honor roll. Mooriah Rowser and Breigha Wilder-Cochran also have earned weekly honors from the American this season. FUQUA-BEY JOINS 500-500 CLUB Junior forward Asianna Fuqua-Bey grabbed eight rebounds in the win over East Carolina on Sunday afternoon. Those eight boards pushed her past 500 for her career, making her just the 25th player in Memphis’ 43-year women’s basketball history to have over 500 career points and 500 career rebounds. Heading in to the first meeting with Cincinnati, Fuqua-Bey has 610 career points and 515 career rebounds. Of her 515 career boards, 60.2 percent (310) have come off the defensive glass. LEARNING TO WIN CLOSE GAMES A young Tiger squad is still learning how to pull out close games. Of the Tigers’ eight losses, five have been by single digits, including the one-point loss to

Temple in the conference opener. Those five Memphis single digit losses have added up to a combined 23 points. Memphis is 4-5 in single-digit games following the four-point road win at UCF, last week. BUILDING OFF TOUGH NON-CONFERENCE SLATE Memphis has a 20-win season and a post-season bid as a team goal this year. And the Tigers’ have been well-tested to date, having already faced six teams in the top 100 in the latest NCAA RPI Report. In all, Memphis will play 11 games this season against teams currently ranked in the top 100. RPI.......................................................... She grabbed four steals in the loss, her fifth multisteal game of the season and her second in as many conference games. Memphis is waiting for the sophomore to break through on the other side of the ball. She is 2-for-14 in her last three games, including an 0-for-3 stretch in the conference opener against Temple. DOUBLE-DOUBLE FOR WRIGHT With the Tigers’ guards struggling to score, Memphis looked to its posts for some offensive help in the Temple game. Junior forward Brianna Wright stepped up with a season-best 18 points on 8-for-13 shooting. She also added 14 rebounds for her third double-double of the season and her fifth double-digit rebounding night.

Six players finished with a GPA of 3.0 or higher during the semester (Cheyenne Creighton, Asianna FuquaBey, Ariel Hearn, Amber Holmes, Mooriah Rowser, Brianna Wright) and freshman Amber Holmes posted the highest team GPA of the fall at 3.87. The Tigers’ fall team GPA was 3.087. FUQUA-BEY USING FREE THROW LINE TO ELEVATE SCORING THREAT Junior forward Asianna Fuqua-Bey has worked hard to improve at the free-throw line. As a freshman, the Chicago native shot 54.3 percent at the stripe. This season, she is shooting 83.9 percent. The Temple game marked the second time this year that the Tigers have had two players post double-digit rebounds. In addition to Brianna Wright’s 14 rebounds against Temple, Asianna Fuqua-Bey added 12 rebounds, her second consecutive double-digit rebounding night of the season. The last time Memphis had two players with double digit rebounds before the Temple game? Another game where Memphis had a halftime lead, but lost -- Minnesota. ANOTHER NON-CONFERENCE MARK OVER .500 FOR MCFERRIN’S TIGERS Memphis has never finished under .500 in league play since McFerrin took over prior to the 2008-09 season (including post-season tournaments) and the Tigers took a step toward making that a seventh straight occurrence by closing regular season nonconference play with a 6-5 mark. Memphis Non-Conference Record Under McFerrin 2014-15: 6-5 2013-14: 7-6 2012-13: 9-7 2011-12: 12-5 2010-11: 13-5 2009-10: 10-8 2008-09: 7-7 WILDER-COCHRAN NAMED TO HONOR ROLL Sophomore point guard Breigha Wilder-Cochran was named to the American weekly honor roll after the win at Georgetown. Wilder-Cochran scored 12 points on 5-for-9 shooting and tied a career-high with five steals for the second time in three games. She is the second Tiger this season to earn a spot on the weekly honor roll, joining Mooriah Rowser. DOUBLE DIGIT REBOUNDS FOR PAIR OF TIGERS Asianna Fuqua-Bey and Brianna Wright each grabbed 13 rebounds in the loss to Minnesota. Fuqua-Bey had 10 offensive rebounds in the game on Sunday, becoming just the ninth player in school history to grab 10 offensive rebounds in a game. She is the first Tiger since Jasmine Lee to grab double-digit offensive rebounds in a game. Double Digit Offensive Rebounds in a Game 12 - Diana Gray vs. McNeese State, Dec. 2, 1989 12 - Glynetha Davis vs. Virginia Tech, Jan. 11, 1989 11 - Jasmine Lee vs. Chattanooga, Mar. 15, 2012 11 - Keeta Matthews vs. DePaul, Feb. 19, 1995 11 - Keeta Matthews vs. UT Martin, Dec. 1, 1993 10 - Asia Fuqua-Bey vs. Minnesota, Nov. 23, 2014 10 - Jasmine Lee vs. East Carolina, Jan. 15, 2012 10 - Paris Leonard vs. Austin Peay, Nov. 25, 2005 10 - Connie Hibbler vs. Florida State, Jan. 26, 1987 ROWSER NAMED TO AMERICAN HONOR ROLL Redshirt sophomore guard Mooriah Rowser was named to the American Athletic Conference weekly honor roll after leading Memphis in scoring last week in a pair of wins. Rowser is averaging 19.5 ppg and is shooting 38.7 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point range in the early going. She is also the team’s leading free-throw attempts leader, going 12-for-15 (80.0 percent) in the early going. HEARN HITS 1,000TH CAREER POINT AND 100TH CAREER TRIPLE Junior guard Ariel Hearn opened her 2014-15 scoring line with a pair of three point field goals in the first half against Missouri State. The second triple pushed her past the 1,000 career point mark, making her the 23rd player in school history to score a grand or more. She added a pair of threes in the second half, which gave her the 100th triple of her three-year Tiger career. She is just the ninth player in school history to connect on 100 career threes. Getting to her 1,000th career point in her 64th career game means that Hearn was the fifth-fastest in Memphis history to get to the 1,000 career point
