SERIES HISTORY -- TIGERS VS TEMPLE This is just the third meeting between Memphis and the Temple Owls. The Owls swept the series with Memphis last season, both team’s first in the American Athletic Conference. Like last year, this is the first conference game of the season for both teams. Temple won the game in the Elma Roane Fieldhouse last year, 63-56. Memphis had cut the deficit to one at 55-54 with 1:33 left in the game in that first-ever meeting, but Temple closed out the game on an 8-2 run to pick up their first-ever American Athletic Conference win and their first win against the Tigers. Ariel Hearn finished with 22 points in that game. TIGERS IN CONFERENCE OPENERS Memphis is 3-3 in conference openers under Melissa McFerrin. They are 3-2 when that conference opener happens at home. Temple won in both team’s opener last year. The last time Memphis won its conference opener in a game that was played at home was in 2011-12, defeting Tulane, 61-59. MEMPHIS FINISHES FALL SEMESTER IN A FLOURISH IN THE CLASSROOM The Tigers had a strong finish to the fall semester. Six players finished with a GPA of 3.0 or higher during the semester (Cheyenne Creighton, Asianna FuquaBey, Ariel Hearn, Amber Holmes, Mooriah Rowser, Brianna Wright) and freshman Amber Holmes posted the highest team GPA of the fall at 3.87. The Tigers’ fall team GPA was 3.087. GETTING ON THE GLASS The conference opener against Temple will include one important key for Memphis -- win the battle on the boards. Temple leads the American Athletic Conference with 18 offensive rebounds a game, a number that ranks 16th ™in the country. Memphis has been out-rebounded by its opponents in four games already this season and is 2-2 when the opponent gets more caroms. In the Tigers’ last game against Mississippi Valley State, Memphis was out-rebounded 44-41 and of the five Tiger starters, only one had an offensive rebound, guard Mooriah Rowser. Starting posts Asianna FuquaBey and Brianna Wright combined for 17 rebounds, but all of them were off defensive glass. Memphis will need them to put up another big night on the defensive glass against the Owls, Sunday.

FUQUA-BEY APPROACHING 500TH CAREER REBOUND Asia Fuqua-Bey is just 23 rebounds shy of her 500th career rebound heading in to her 75th career game on Sunday night. Whenever she gets to 500 rebounds, she will join the 500-500 club, becoming just the 25th player in school history to have 500 career points and 500 career rebounds. She picked up her 500th career point against UALR and is now 38 points shy of her 600th point heading in to the Temple game.

TEAM INFORMATION

HEARN LOOKING TO MOVE TO 18TH ON CAREER SCORING CHART Junior guard Ariel Hearn is just six points away from moving to 18th on the all-time scoring charts at Memphis. With 1,179 careers points, she is six shy of Lynn Enzweiler’s (1974-76) mark of 1,185 points. Hearn needs to pass the 1,200 point mark in order to jump higher on the Memphis scoring charts. Victoria Crawford is currently 17th with 1,299 points (200205).

DOUBLE-DOUBLE FOR FUQUA-BEY Junior forward Asianna Fuqua-Bey scored 12 points in the first half of the Mississippi Valley State victory, and finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds for her fifth career double-double. That was the fifth doubledouble of the season for Memphis, and the first this year for Fuqua-Bey.

Tiger Double-Doubles Brianna Wright vs. Missouri State, 11 pts, 16 reb (11/14/14) Courtney Powell vs. Samford, 11 pts, 11 reb (11/16/14) Mooriah Rowser vs. SIU, 13 pts, 10 reb (11/26/14) Brianna Wright vs. UALR, 14 pts, 16 reb (11/29/14) Asia Fuqua-Bey vs. MVSU, 12 pts, 12 reb (12/19/14) HEARN MAKES START AT POINT Sophomore guard Breigha Wilder-Cochran missed a start against Mississippi Valley State in the Tigers’ final non-conference games. Wilder-Cochran was available to the Tigers, but after continuing to re-tweak an ankle injury in multiple games, the Tiger coaching staff rested her for the MVSU game. That meant that Ariel Hearn managed the game at the point for Memphis, finishing with 15 points on 5-for-8 shooting, six rebounds, five assists (against two turnovers), three steals and 3-for-5 shooting from three-point range. HEARN ON ANOTHER DOUBLE-DIGIT SCORING STREAK Ariel Hearn has scored double-digit points in nine straight games heading in to the conference opener against Temple. Hearn scored 22 points in both games against the Owls last season, shooting 9-for-18 in the loss in the Elma Roane Fieldhouse and 8-for-17 in the loss in Philadelphia. She has scored 20 or more points in 20 career games at Memphis, counting both of those Temple games last season. After scoring 20 or more points in three straight games earlier this season (the first time in her career she has hit 20 or more points in three straight games), she has not scored 20 points in five straight games now. Her last 20-plus point night? A 22 point effort in the loss to UALR, a team that continues to receive vote in the coaches’ poll. ELMORE TAKING ON MORE SCORING Freshman guard Brea Elmore struggled to adjust to college-level scoring in the early part of the season, going scoreless in four of Memphis’ first five games. But since an eight-point night against Austin Peay, and a nine-point night in the win over Central Michigan, she has scored in five straight games. In the last five games, she is averaging 5.4 ppg. FUQUA-BEY USING FREE THROW LINE TO ELEVATE SCORING THREAT Junior forward Asianna Fuqua-Bey has worked hard to improve at the free-throw line. As a freshman, the Chicago native shot 54.3 percent at the stripe. This season, she is shooting 81.5 percent. Fuqua-Bey At the Line 2012-13........................................... 50-92 (54.3) 2013-14......................................... 60-108 (55.6) 2014-15........................................... 22-27 (81.5) TRYING TO INCORPORATE THE WRIGHT TOUCH Memphis is still trying to figure out how to incorporate junior transfer Brianna Wright in to the offense. In games where Wright gets at least five shot attempts, Memphis is 5-3. In games where she does not get five shot tries, the Tigers are 1-2. Wright is shooting 55.0 percent from the field (33-for-60) and has shot 60 percent or better in six games. All but two of those games where she has hit 60 percent or better were Memphis wins. ROWSER BACK IN THE FLOW Redshirt sophomore Mooriah Rowser had a quick start to the season, scoring 21 points in the opener and scoring double-digit points in the first five games. But in the next five games, she hit double digit points just once, and was held scoreless for the first time of the season in the loss at George Washington as team’s adjust their scouting reports to a healthy Rowser (she missed all but three games of her freshman year to a knee injury and was not fully recovered last

season, despite playing in all 31 games). Memphis is hoping the win over Mississippi Valley State helped Rowser settle back in to her game, as she finished 5-for-9 from the field (55.6 percent) and added four rebounds and a steal to finish with 11 points.

ANOTHER NON-CONFERENCE MARK OVER .500 FOR MCFERRIN’S TIGERS Memphis has never finished under .500 in league play since McFerrin took over prior to the 2008-09 season (including post-season tournaments) and the Tigers took a step toward making that a seventh straight occurance by closing regular season non-conference play with a 6-5 mark.

CAREER NIGHT FOR HEARN Junior guard Ariel Hearn scored a career-best 28 points in the loss to Minnesota. Hearn tied a school record by knocking down seven three-point field goals in that game. She now shares that record with former Tigers Alex Winchell (Feb. 20, 2011) and LaTonya Johnson (Jan. 17, 1997). With the seven makes from three-point range on Sunday, Hearn now has 108 career three-point field goals made. She needs 23 more to move up to a tie for 8th on the all-time career list at Memphis. The 28-point effort give Hearn 1,058 career points. That moved her past Terri Galloway (1,046 points) and to 21st in career scoring at Memphis. She needs 13 more points to tie Devin Necaise (1,071) for 20th all-time in scoring.

Memphis Non-Conference Record Under McFerrin 2014-15: 6-5 2013-14: 7-6 2012-13: 9-7 2011-12: 12-5 2010-11: 13-5 2009-10: 10-8 2008-09: 7-7 FUQUA-BEY LOOKING FOR DOUBLE DIGITS Asianna Fuqua-Bey has worked hard on becoming a force for the Tigers’ offense. In the last five games, she has been Memphis’ second-leading scorer with 10.4 ppg and is 21-for-40 (52.5) from the field. She also has the second-highest number of free-throw attempts in the last five games, knocking down 10-of13 shots (76.9) to help Memphis to a 4-1 record in its last five outings of the non-conference slate. WILDER-COCHRAN NAMED TO HONOR ROLL Sophomore point guard Breigha Wilder-Cochran was named to the American weekly honor roll after the win at Georgetown. Wilder-Cochran scored 12 points on 5-for-9 shooting and tied a career-high with five steals for the second time in three games. She is the second Tiger this season to earn a spot on the weekly honor roll, joining Mooriah Rowser. DOUBLE DIGIT REBOUNDS FOR WRIGHT Junior post Brianna Wright became the first Tiger since Jasmine Lee to post double digit rebounds in three straight games, finishing with 10 against Central Michigan. The Memphis record for most consecutive games with double digit rebounds is five, a mark held by Tamika Whitmore (1/8/98-1/23/98), a player who went on to be a WNBA All-Star. In eight games, Wright has posted double-digit rebounds in five games and currently ranks 48th in the country in rebounding with 10.1 rpg. The last time a Tiger averaged double-digit rebounds for a season was 2011-12 when Jasmine Lee averaged 10.3 rpg. Her double-digit rebound streak was snapped by Georgetown, where she finished with seven boards.

ANOTHER OPPONENT RECEIVING VOTES Memphis has not faced a ranked opponent yet, but has faced a team receiving votes in the polls three times already (Minnesota, UALR, George Washington). Future opponents USF and Tulane are also receiving votes this week. CONTINUING A STRONG SCHEDULE Memphis’ strength of schedule is one of the toughest in the country in the early going. In the latest RealTimeRPI.com ratings, the Tigers’ Strength of Schedule is No. 59 out of 351 NCAA Division I women’s basketball programs. Opponent.....................RPI.................. Fuqua-Bey had 10 offensive rebounds in the game on Sunday, becoming just the ninth player in school history to grab 10 offensive rebounds in a game. She is the first Tiger since Jasmine Lee to grab double-digit offensive rebounds in a game. Rowser is averaging 19.5 ppg and is shooting 38.7 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point range in the early going. She is also the team’s leading free-throw attempts leader, going 12-for-15 (80.0 percent) in the early going. HEARN HITS 1,000TH CAREER POINT AND 100TH CAREER TRIPLE Junior guard Ariel Hearn opened her 2014-15 scoring line with a pair of three point field goals in the first half against Missouri State. The second triple pushed her past the 1,000 career point mark, making her the 23rd player in school history to score a grand or more. She added a pair of threes in the second half, which gave her the 100th triple of her three-year Tiger career. She is just the ninth player in school history to connect on 100 career threes. Getting to her 1,000th career point in her 64th career game means that Hearn was the fifth-fastest in Memphis history to get to the 1,000 career point mark. She tied the mark set by Tamika Whitmore, who went on to become the second Memphis women’s basketball player drafted in to the WNBA, earning WNBA All-Star honors while she played in Indiana. ROWSER GOES FOR 20 Redshirt sophomore guard Mooriah Rowser had a strong start to her season against Missouri State. Rowser led Memphis with 21 points, her fourth career 20plus point game. This marks the second time in three seasons Rowser has started the season with a 20-plus point performance. In her true freshman season, she scored 24 points against Grambling State in her first college game, but two games later, suffered a knee injury that cost her the rest of that season. She posted a pair of 20-plus point performances last year (21 against Texas A&M and 20 at Louisville). WILDER-COCHRAN SETS FRESHMAN ASSIST RECORD Freshman point guard Breigha Wilder-Cochran broke Ariel Hearn’s freshman assist record last season. Wilder-Cochran finished the season with 125 total assists and ranked third in The American with 4.0 assists per game. The 125 assists in a single season is impressive, and to put that in perspective, Wilder-Cochran was just 20 assists shy of breaking in to the single season top 10 at Memphis in single season assists.
