The Living Room in Paradise
A living room is not only for the livings, but also for families, friends, people, who are separated by death but desiring to be together. A greenland within the Skogskyrkogarden Cemetery in Stockholm, Sweden, was chosen for this extension. A tree-lined terrace and a walkway provide an elevated view over the cemetery. By creating the image of a heavenly meeting room (platform, walkway, tree house), people can stand far away from the ground and close to heaven to think of their loved ones and friends, or to express their thoughts in a more private meeting room space.
The design site is located in Stockholm Forest Park, Sweden. The site and its surroundings are large cemeteries and green spaces. The city center of Stockholm is 10km in the north, sports venues such as stadiums and natatoriums are 4km in the north, shopping centers are 4km in the south, and food and drink shops are scattered around the site.
Concept
The three tree houses are located within the design site and are more enclosed than the previous terrace, offering a more private space for those who need to relieve their innermost thoughts. It has a more enclosed and spacious feel.
Three tree ponds (tree enclosing platforms) have been placed in the design to allow people to see the headstones at their feet from multiple angles, giving them more perspective and space to think of their loved ones and friends.
