WEEK 01

3

01 Scavenger Hunt

Reflections: Ideation process was scattered, but the execution was enjoyable.

Feedback: - Change axes of box

- Asymmetry needs to be improved

- No visual interest: sticks were disproportionate to box

Resilience

WEEK 02

5

02 Rectilinear

Reflections:

Sculpting clay in-class was messy and difficult.

Feedback: - Improve workmanship

6

Reflections: Enjoyed seeing forms change from sketchbook to reality, and improved workmanship as instructed.

Feedback: - Base is too stable - Asymmetry needs to be improved

WEEK 03

8

Reflections: Working in-class felt like the first time to model in clay all over again.

Feedback: - Improve workmanship

- Create more dynamics and asymmetry

03 Curvilinear 9

Reflections: Attempted playing with negative space while working on neatness.

Dependent: geometry reliability

Feedback: - ‘Reliability’ was too stable

- Poor connections between elements

- Green cutting board too distracting

10

Precarious:

Reflections:

These two models were easier to sculpt than the ones before. Connections were dismissed, however.

Feedback:

- Maintaining strong connections is important.

- All-black background to draw eyes to model.

WEEK 04

12

04 Recti Curvi

Reflections: Working on clay and translating it to newspapers was enjoyable, and seeing results with black background is satisfying.

Feedback: - Angle of photos needed to be similar

- Edit hands out of picture

Entrapment

13

WEEK 05

14

05 Fragments

Reflections: Ideation process was quick and fun.

Feedback: - Not allowed to bend surfaces

- Photography skills improved

Incomplete Misfit 15

WEEK 06

16

Application 1 - Extrusions

This was inspired by one of the example collages displayed in class.

subordinate subdominant dominant

06
17

Sketching initial idea: indoor pool centre.

18

Reflections: Process was mind stimulating, but I wish there was a neater way to connect the sticks.

Feedback: - Must use same colour palette as 2D collage - Accurate human scale

19

WEEK 07

20

07 Wires

Concept: the spiral represents the conflict between love and momentary anger. The sharp fall of the straight line intertwined with the smoothness of curves act as contrasts of the leniency of love and sharpness of anger.

Jealousy

21

Concept: the elongation of the wire shows pride and the wide base loop represents security. ie: confidence stems from security.

Confidence

22

“All

Efron & Zendaya

Flying together is abstracted in the wide upward spiral, while the falling motion is achieved through the straight line downfall.

Reflections: Thoroughly enjoyed this assignment as was able to discover a new skill and hobby.

Rewrite the stars

I want is to fly with you, all I want is to fall with you” - Zac
23

Resubmission of week 6’s extrusion assignment. This time I followed the same colour scheme as instructed last class.

WEEK 08

26

08 Midterm project: The Seashell Theatre

Reflections: Ideation process took too long.

Feedback:

- Pool was too deep for kids

- Functionality of theatre is questionable and vague

- Seashell abstraction inaccurate

The Seashell Theatre is inspired by spiral seashells, and is a place for kids to watch entertaining shows.

27

WEEK 09

28

09 Planar Construction

Reflections: This was a retrial; the old material used was too thick to achieve desired curves.

Feedback: - Irregular lengths in maze is good

29

WEEK 10

30

10 Final Project: GEM Entrance

Phase 01

Reflections: Design appeared to be rather simple.

Feedback: - Fix the proportions of the entrance

- Add bent columns as in the real entrance

- Add a lot of details to make it stand out

31

Phase 02

Reflections: Closing it was more challenging than anticipated due to its weight

Feedback:

- Hollow out golden rays

- Larger information paper, font, and annotate pictures

- Make it user interactive

- Reconsider the project in terms of educational product design

32

Phase 03 - Final submission

Reflections: Applying the changes that the Dr suggested elevated the model. It looked more professional and neater.
