Overview:
Judy Adams President, Adams Home Care Consulting, Inc
Based on available statistics, 33% of all stroke survivors will require some type of assistance caring for themselves. Patients who survive the acute phase of a stroke are frequently left with a variety of residual conditions that will require short term or long term home health services and it is imperative that home health clinicians and coders are prepared to code these situations fully and accurately. Nearly all stroke survivors will require some degree of observation, assessment, education and rehabilitative services in the immediate post acute phase and many will return to home health room time to time as their condition becomes complicated by other conditions and the residuals from the stroke worsen.
Why you should attend: As the American population ages and the baby boomers reach Medicare age, home health agencies are likely to see an increased number of patients who have experienced stroke. Data from the Stroke Awareness Organization reports over 750,000 people in the United States suffer a stroke every year (1 every 45 seconds). One third of all stroke survivors will have another stroke within 5 years
and 14% will have another stroke within one year.
