Overview: This webinar will discuss how implementing a targeted quality assessment and quality improvement program for a human research protection program and IRB can greatly improve efficiency, compliance, and consistently. While auditing and quality improvement are not regulatory requirements, they are considered best practice that are usually an important part of any program at an organization. HRPP accreditation programs have standards requiring audit and quality improvement which can be useful templates for any HRPP. Many examples of potential areas of QA/QI targeted issues will be discussed. In addition, the discussion will include the development and use of metrics as part of your QA/QI program. A strategy will be presented to develop metrics for any IRB function, including metrics that cover quality, efficiency and compliance. Quality assessment and improvement can help ensure regulatory compliance of IRBs and investigators. But beyond compliance, a QA/QI program in your HRPP/IRB can promote a better use of organizational resources, more efficient and standardized reviews to benefit researchers, and stronger and more consistent protections for research participants. IRBs will be enhanced with better committees, better efficiency and more consistency in reviews, decisions making, and approvals. Better human research protection programs go hand-inhand with better science. Why should you Attend: Without a quality assessment and improvement program, a human research protection program and IRB can easily become inefficient and inconsistent. If you don't know where you are going, you will probably get there, to the detriment of your investigators, research participants, your research program and your organization.
