Compliance expert Joseph Batte will lay out specific ways for providers to navigate the CIA process to obtain the most favorable and economic results for their practice. Corporate Integrity Agreements (CIAs) are detailed and restrictive agreements that usually last four to five years. They are imposed on health care providers by the US Department of Human Services, Office of Inspector General (OIG) when serious conduct (fraudulent or abusive action) is discovered through an audit, investigation, or self disclosure. CIAs give providers a second chance by allowing them to continue to participate in federal health care programs.
Why should you attend:
Many providers have been placed under CIAs by OIG. While better than being prosecuted or excluded, CIAs entered into by providers who do not understand the process, could actually backfire on them. Many providers are responding favorably to the CIA approach but providers must know how to use the process to benefit them.
Joseph Batte is president of Kristall Associates, a compliance, and risk assessment specialist for the health care provider community as well as the litigation support community. He is a former special agent with the US Office of Inspector General and participated in the development of that Departments compliance guidance’s.
