is located in the historic grand ballroom of the former Taft Hotel, next to the Shubert Theater. You may remember it as Hot Tomato’s, but things have changed since the Taft restaurant group took over this restaurant. If you’ve only seen the sign and never walked in you are missing out on a beautiful landmark. Upon entering the first thing you see is the large burgundy staircase that swoops its way upstairs to the main dining area. The ceilings are breath taking with its original décor. The large front windows run from the floor to the ceiling and on beautiful days and evenings are opened to the outdoor air. The chef has brought back some of Yale’s traditional dishes like Bakers soup and Seafood en Papillote, shrimp, slamon,scallops baked in parchment with fresh herbs, olive oil, and chardonay. Now one can get the best fish, steak, and pasta dinner’s at the most reasonable prices in New Haven. Downtown at the Taft also has an expansive bar on the first floor, and an area where you can sit on a comfy couch in front of the fireplace. There are daily drink specials and they serve the best martini in town. Check the online calendar for the late night entertainment schedule. And, if you are planning an event, this is the place to have it, with accommodations for up to 250 guests. We look forward to your first or next visit with us.
