2. Selling Art With Menzies Requesting an Art Appraisal If you are thinking about selling a work of fine art? Then, Menzies would be comfortable providing a free initial estimate of its auction value.
Appraisals requested may be submitted via our Online Appraisal Form or by reaching one of our professionals directly. Menzies provides assessment
in person at our Sydney and Melbourne galleries on Wednesday afternoons, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Clients are welcome to bring along their artwork at this time; there is no demand to make an appointment. In some possibilities,
Menzies experts may be able to appraise artworks at your property. Onsite estimates are generally free of charge, but a fee may be applicable depending on the content and variety of
the collection. This appraisal fee would be refundable if these artworks are consigned to auction with Menzies.
Consigning your Artwork Each consignment is subject to a seller’s charge that is calculated as an allocation of the hammer price of each artwork and is therefore payable only if the work vented. In some examples, the consignment may include one-off fees
associated with a third party – e.g., a copyright fee or resale royalty payable to the artist or their estate.
Presale Guidance The half-month preceding the auction, you will acquire a pre-sale advice form. That form shows the seller's possibility of authorizing Menzies to decrease the additional price of an artwork consigned to the sale.
After-Sales Information Within a few days of the auction, you will receive a piece of after-sale advice listing the final hammer price of an individual end. If the artwork went unsold, an announcement that it was ‘passed in’ etc. Payment for excesses sold will be processed approximately 35 days after the sale.
Please ensure that you have advised Menzies in advance of your select the techniques of payment. The final
process of the sale will be similar to the hammer price of each lot sold, less seller’s commission, and any additional costs as approved at the time of consignment.
Should your artwork go unsold, Menzies professionals would advise of any post-sale offers. Menzies commonly suggests that unsold works remain on our assumptions for some
days after the auction. So they may be viewed by any prospective buyers. After this time, unsold artworks will be available for collection provided that any outstanding fees relating to the consignment have been paid in full.
