Happy Sat-TOY-Day… and of course Happy Easter also! Despite this week's launch of Batman vs Superman at the cinema, Marvel continue to dominate the Toy News with new product details from Diamond, Hasbro and SH Figuarts in this week's issue. Diamond were in attendance at C2E2 last weekend, and thanks to a virtual tour of their booth we have got some more details about the content of their upcoming X-Files figures. NECA news this week revolves around Freddy, who also adorns our cover, as well as a teaser image from Predator. And we have a big press release from Nickelodeon as they confirm exactly what merchandise we can expect to see from the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle sequel, Out of the Shadows. There are no new reviews this week as it seems the Gotham Select figures we had been expecting are delayed further, despite being plentiful over in the US. Fingers crossed that these turn up soon, and of course I am also hoping that the new Ahsoka wave of Star Wars Black Series hits the UK shores soon.
A number of Marvel Legend exclusives were announced at Toy Fair during the Hasbro presentation. There was a degree of confusion afterwards as to whether these were 6" or 3.75" figures, particularly as these were only shown via a promotional image and not an actual figure. eBay seller Viperskingdom has now started listed loose versions of some of these exclusives, and these ones are confirmed at 6" in size. WarMachine (Civil War) and the Mk27 Disco Ironman will be a 2-pack exclusive to Target. The packaging for this has shown up, again on eBay, and looks very crisp - although the decision to dual brand this and put the Mk27 above an Avengers logo seems an odd choice. Namor will be a single carded exclusive for Walgreens. Neither have a UK release date at this point, but we would hope the independents will be able to source some of these for UK Legends collectors.
On behalf of the Archives, thanks for reading and I hope you have a brilliant Easter weekend.
Still waiting on a price you can’t refuse on the Black Series 6 inch scale Tie fighter? This week it dropped to £70 on Amazon. Marvel 3.75" Legend figures are currently on offer at Asda for £8 each. Looks to be the pictured wave only. They may be on Easter seasonal aisle rather than Toy aisle. The 12" Hero figures, 2.5" Civil War figures and Mashers are all also reduced.
Another Marvel Legend exclusive set that has shown up this week, this time in Hong Kong, is the set shown to the right. This 3 pack of Vision, Sam Wilson Cap and Kate Bishop Hawkeye is also 6 inch scale and is a Toys R Us Exclusive. Thankfully, a lot of Toys R Us exclusives have been worldwide so we are in with a better chance of this one hitting UK stores vs the ones we posted yesterday. RRP for the UK is expected to be around £60.
NECA have shared some images of their new 7" Freddy. Pre-orders have also gone up in the UK at Forbidden Planet. NECA's Randy Falk has shared this image (right) under their #Predensday hashtag. It is obviously a reproduction, in figure scale, of the skinned man from the original Predator movie. Fans will be hoping this is not just a promotional diorama, but perhaps a new accessory pack for the Predator range - similar to the Trophy packs, and along similar lines to the creature packs they are releasing for the Alien series.
"This time, staying awake won’t save you. Introducing an all-new Freddy Krueger action figure from Wes Craven's New Nightmare! The seventh film in the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise took the iconic character in a more menacing direction – closer to Wes Craven’s original intentions for #Freddy. This 7″ scale figure features a completely new and improved sculpt with over 25 points of articulation. It comes with an alternate head and removable hat. Ships to retailers in June 2016!"
Diamond have given us some more details about their Select X-Files figures which are hitting stores later this year. Mulder will come with a backdrop of the X-Files office and a desk chair. He will come with alternative heads (one with sunglasses, one without), FBI Badge, swap out hands and a bag of Pumpkin seeds. Scully will come with the X-Files Desk, so you can add this to Mulder's parts to recreate the office. She will come with alternate hands and a torch. Screen-grabs courtesy of the DST Booth tour video from C2-E2 which you can watch at their facebook page.
Diamond Select have just released the promotional images and script for their three upcoming Select Action figures from Captain America : Civil War. Winter Soldier, Captain America and Iron Man Mk46 are due to hit stores in May 2016. Each figure has 16 points of articulation and is supplied with a themed diorama base. Join all three bases together to complete a larger diorama base. Bucky will come with a rifle, while Cap will come with a removable shield. All three will come in the Select collectors packaging. Click the images below to pre-order from Forbidden Planet.
Full details have been released this week for the SH Figuarts 1/12 Black Widow figure. We first saw this figure, along with a Hawkeye, in 2015 but it seemed to have gone quiet for a while and we thought potentially overtaken by the releases for Civil War - namely Black Panther and Ant-man. Thankfully, particularly when you look at these promotional images, Widow is arriving in 2016 and will help SHF collectors get one step closer to a full set of original Avengers. The figure will be packed with a pair of batons, handguns and a number of swap out hand options. She will stand just under 6" and is down to be released in September 2016. The Japanese RRP is 6,264 Yen - which translates to about £40. UK customers will need to import so will have to factor in delivery and custom costs.
Nickelodeon today confirmed their plans for the merchandise attached to the 2016 TMNT sequel, out of the Shadows. Along with role play items and Megabloks, the Action Figure line will continue at 5", 6" and 11" scale, with the 5" line supported with vehicles and a Technodrome playset. There will be a Walmart (US) exclusive of the Turtle Truck, and Walmart will be offering a number of items for pre-order this weekend at Wondercon for visitors of the con only. The new products will also be on show at Wondercon and we would hope to see some images over the weekend.
The source, and full details of this are yet to be released but this image has been posted across a number of different sites. It seems Tamashii Nations may be expanding these Movie Realization figures from Star Wars into Marvel, with Spider-man being the first. We will update as and when more info is released. In the meantime let us know what you think over on our Facebook page
