Issue 72 : Saturday 3rd February, 2018
Following the reveal of McFarlane's 2nd wave of 7" scale Destiny figures, due in Spring 2018, the team at McFarlane have now announced a further 2018 release, with Iron Banner Warlock arriving in Autumn. The figure, revealed via the McFarlane website, will come with the Requiem Shotgun the Mida Mini-Tool and a Last City Shell.
McFarlane's Destiny 7" figures were a big hit when released in the Autumn of 2018, and the McFarlane team were quick to confirm the 2nd wave of figures would arrive in Spring 2018. At the time of the announcement we got some mockup images of the three new figures - Ikora Rey, Commander Zavala and Cayde-6. As we get closer to the release of wave 2 McFarlane have released new images of these new figures.
“Today, we’re celebrating the Destiny Iron Banner release with a REVEAL of our Iron Banner Warlock. He’s equipped with the Calus’s Selected raid shader and will be hitting stores this Fall!” - McFarlane Toys
Ikora Rey is armed with the Deadpan Delivery Shotgun. The impressive Commander Zavala will be armed with his Daedalus Assault Rifle. And finally Cayde-6 comes with the Ace of Spades Hand Cannon. The figures are all around 12 points of articulation and will come with the standard McFarlane (Color top) display base and will be numbered under the Color Top numbering scheme (#43 - 45)
Idlehands have shared this image from the UK Toy Fair of a new McFarlane box set of 7" scale Stranger Things figures. The set contains Dustin, Lucas, Will and Mike in their Season 2 Ghostbusters outfits. The set didn't show any figures, just the box art and a mockup of the figures within. We would hope to see more at the New York Toy Fair in February.
After being shown at a couple of trade shows, A New Hope Obi-Wan Kenobi from SH Figuarts finally has a release date for June 2018.
It was December 2017 and the Tokyo Comic Con where we got our first glimpse at a MAFEX Gwenpool from Medicom. The Medicom team have now confirmed the full details for the figure and released a slew of promotional images.
This fantastic 1/12 version of Alec Guinness from A New Hope looks to come with two head sculpts or options with the 2nd version having his eyes closed as he allows Vader to strike him down on the Death Star. The cloak and robes are all plastic and there seems to be two hood options to allow a hood up or hood down look.
After focusing on figures from the Marvel Movies to date in the 1/12 MAFEX line, this is the first true comic book release for Medicom. While the figure is pretty close to the Marvel comic-art, it also has a very Anime look to it particularly the facial expressions - with the look of the figure apparently taken from the Anime inspired The Unbelievable Gwenpool comic book by Christopher Hastings, with illustrations by Gurihiru.
Obi-Wan's lightsaber is included and can be hung on his belt as a hilt, or displayed in fighting stance with the blade lit and ready to face down Vader. And for those wanting to replicate the final moments of Obi-Wan you even get his empty discarded robes to lay down in front of Vader as Obi-Wan transforms into the Force Ghost we see in Empire. Obi-Wan is priced at 6480 Yen in Japan. The figure will need to be imported for UK and US collectors, and will likely set you back around £50 / $60.
Gwenpool will be released in September 2018 and will retail in Japan for 7800 yen. That will equate to £51 or £71, plus a bit extra for shipping and import to the UK/US. She comes with three head portraits - masked & happy, masked & scared and unmasked. She also gets two backpacks - a dolphin and a penguin - a scrunched up mask and mobile phone. She will be armed with a pair of katana blades which will fit into a working pair of sheaths which are also worn as a backpack. A number of hand options look also to be included. Gwenpool is an interesting twist for the MAFEX line and she will certainly have appeal to both Marvel and Anime collectors and I suspect she will be a surprise hit when she arrives in Autumn.
NECA have revealed the packaging for their upcoming 1/4 scale Raphael in disguise from Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles.
Since its inception, the Bandai 1/12 model kit range of Star Wars figures has concentrated on armoured and masked characters from the various Star Wars movies, and one of the big questions was always could they translate the kits to a human or alien face? The head detail is pre-coloured using what they are calling a Triaxial Jet Finish. This appears to be a couple of skin tones onto the plastic rather than a flat tone. The heads do look a tad glossy, but the beauty of these kits has always been the aftermarket painting and weathering that collectors can add as much or as little as they feel comfortable. The Han Solo kit will arrive in April 2018, with Luke following in May. Both kits are still going to fall within the licence agreement that Bandai cannot directly sell these outside of Japan. That will mean import cost on top of the RRP, so expect to initially be paying £25 - £30 a set while the price stabilises.
The answer appears to be yes, with the announcement of this two new kits allowing you to build Luke Skywalker and Han Solo in their Stormtrooper armour from A New Hope. Now granted a lot of this is a re-use of the existing Stormtrooper kit, but it will add in the new head sculpts as well as removable helmets. The attention to detail also remains on point with Bandai pointing out specifically that Luke is 0.5cm shorter than Han.
Entertainment Earth have released an image of the Star Wars 3.75" Battle of Crait 4-pack. The set contains a tweaked Rey with salt residue on her boots. We get Rose in a new poncho that looks removable. For the First Order we have a new Snowtrooper with added grey decor - similar to the decor on the AT-M6 drivers we see in the Lego set. Finally, we have one of the new First Order Gunners. The set is priced at $27.99, so expect a £35-£40 price IF this hits the UK "Star Wars: The Last Jedi Battle on Crait 3 3/4-Inch Action Figure Set includes 4 action figures: Rey (Jedi Apprentice, salt on boots), First Order Snowtrooper, First Order Gunner, and Rose (Crait Poncho.)"
Welly, welly, welly, welly, welly, welly, well! Mezco introduces the One:12 Collective Alex DeLarge figure, from the cult classic A Clockwork Orange. Comprehensively detailed with a cloth outfit, skillfully executed accessories, and the likeness of acclaimed actor, Malcolm McDowell. The One:12 Collective A Clockwork Orange figure features three uniquely expressive head portraits as well as Alex’s classic all-white cloth outfit and codpiece. In addition, Alex comes equipped with a deftly designed cane, cane-top knife, and of course, a glass of milk. Also included is a display base with logo and adjustable display post. Sociopath, delinquent, and leader of the droogs, Malcolm McDowell’s Alex DeLarge and company commit ultra-violence in a futuristic yet dystopian version of Britain, in Stanley Kubrick's ‘A Clockwork Orange’.
Mezco have opened up pre-orders for their latest One:12 release, Alex DeLarge from the cult movie A Clockwork Orange. In the usual One:12 style, Alex has a sculpted head and standard body with detailed cloth outfit. There are three head sculpts each capturing a different portrait of actor Malcolm McDowell - we have a standard head with bowler hat, a bowler hat and mask and a bloodied nose version with no hat. There are an assortment of hand options and accessories include a cane, knife and glass of milk. The figure will also come with the One:12 movie logo base and adjustable posing post. Due for release between August and October 2018, the figure will set you back $80 in the US with Mezco taking pre-orders now. UK customers should expect to pay £75 or so.
The Mezco team have released this teaser image of the One:12 Collective figures they will announce in the run up to, and at, New York Toy Fair 2018. The six figures will be in the One:12 scale with sculpted head & body and soft good robes. The far right figure has already been announced as Spider-Man in his Homecoming "Homemade" suit. The centre figure is also very obviously a Batman. But who are the others? We'd love to know what you think and will update this thread as we go... from left to right 1:? 2:? 3:? 4 : Batman? 5:? 6 : Spider-Man, Homecoming Homemade Suit
Mezco have already started their 2018 New York Toy Fair countdown with the reveal of this lovely looking Spider-Man in his Homemade suit from Homecoming. The figure will use a newly sculpted body that will be framed accurately to teenage Peter Parker. The suit will be tailored soft goods and there will be both a masked and unmasked Tom Holland head.
2018 will see the first of Sony's Spiderverse movies when Tom Hardy brings Venom to the big screen. It seems Hasbro have plans for a Marvel Legend wave in conjunction with the movie release which arrives in October. The first two figures are comic book interpretations of Venom and Carnage and these do reuse parts from other figures. It is has been denied that there will be any movie based figures within the wave.
We would expect a sample to be on display at Toy Fair 2018 as well as potentially more details about release, which is likely to be at least the 2nd half of 2018.
There also looks to be some basic 5 1/2" figure releases at the same time, with this two pack of Venom and Carnage. Carnage is a direct re-release of the pretty poor looking version from the Spider-Man animated series. For the 12" Hero line, we will also get figures of Venom and Carnage.
The One:12 Collective Spider-Man Homecoming: Homemade Suit. Skillfully executed in design, Homemade Suit Spider-Man's cloth outfit replicates that of the movie version. From the strings on his hoodie to his knee-high socks, no detail was overlooked. Using a newly sculpted body to accurately reflect the build of teenage Spider-Man, this figure features over 30 points of articulation and is approximately 16cm tall. In addition, Homemade Suit Spiderman comes with a variety of immaculately designed accessories including 2 assorted weblines, 1 posable webline, 7 interchangeable hands, and an unmasked head sculpt featuring the likeness of actor Tom Holland.
As the first trailer drops for Marvel's Ant-Man and the Wasp, Hasbro have announced the first figures for the movie. These are the basic figures we've seen for recent movies like Thor, Spider-Man and of course the upcoming Black Panther. As yet Hasbro do not seem to have stabilised what each movie gets and Ant-Man and the Wasp will be a similar roll out to Thor Ragnarok as there are no 6" basic figures, only 12" basic and electronic figures.
As the first 2018 wave of Deadpool figures (X-Force Deadpool) starts hitting UK stores, Hasbro have confirmed their will be a 2nd Deadpool themed wave later this year. The first three figures of this wave have been confirmed as Lady Deadpool, Omega Red and X-Men Deadpool. These three are comic based figures, with the rumour that the rest of the wave maybe movie based - potentially the first Fox Universe movie figures released since Disney took control of Marvel.
We will have a basic Ant-Man and a basic Wasp figure (above) at about £10£12 each here in UK.
We then have more deluxe versions with extra features. The Ant-Man is titled "Shrink & Strike" with a larger 12" figure of Ant-Man which can launch a small figure or the quantum ship out of a spring loaded launcher in its chest. The Wasp deluxe figure has a feature where you can squeeze the legs to make the wings move. The two deluxe 12" figures will likely retail in UK around £20.
Roleplay items will also be released with an Ant-Man "Vision" mask which has three different lens options for the child to look through when they are wearing the mask. This will set you back around £20. The Wasp mask is devoid of such features and is a basic role-play item and will be around £10.
Images are circulating across the social channels of the next full wave of Marvel Legends 6" figures, the Avengers Infinity War wave. These images are coming in from collector's in Australia. We knew that the wave was coming and that it would include comic book figures of Songbird, King Cobra and Taskmaster. The other four figures are movie figures from Infinity War, and while these characters have been shown on the trailer, please step away now if you are trying to avoid all spoilers.
We had also speculated that the large MCU Thanos we got a glimpse of at SDCC 2017 would be the BAF - this is now confirmed. We had also speculated the initial figures would be based on the most prolific characters on the movie. This has turned out to be accurate with the four figures being made up of Captain America (complete with beard), Iron-Man and Spider-Man.
We would hope there are more Legends figures due for Infinity war with such a quantity of characters to cover. A new Dr Strange will be welcome using the new face printing, as would updates for Widow, Hawkeye etc. We are also of course still awaiting an MCU Vision? More details, including potential exclusives and 2-packs, will no doubt be confirmed at New York Toy Fair.
The Spider-Man is interesting purely as the name is specifically Iron-Spider, confirming the suit we saw in the trailer is the Iron-Spider suit. The fourth figure gives Thanos a little muscle as being one member of the Black Order, Proxima Midnight.
