David Torres named state bar board trustee for 5th district
Bakersfield ice skater earns six gold medals

T
he California State Bar Association announced recently that local attorney, David A. Torres, Esq. has been elected to serve a three-year term on the State Bar Board of Trustees. Torres will be representing bar members who live in the 5th District. The 5th District encompasses the counties of: Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Stanislaus, Tulare, and Tuolumne. Torres, 51, graduated from Gonzaga University School of Law and has been a member of the California Bar since 1988, as well as a member of the Kern County Bar Association since 1989, and a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He is currently admitted to practice law in California and the U.S. District Courts. For over 20 years, Torres has been a successful attorney in Kern County, focusing his practice on federal and state criminal defense with extensive experience in criminal defense. He served as the president of the Kern County Bar Association in 2008, received the prestigious Kern County Bench and Bar Award and continues as a leader in the organization as the current president of the Criminal Defense Section. and has maintained an active role in veteran affairs as a civilian attorney. He has been awarded the Meritorious Service Award, Army Commendation Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal. Torres also serves on the Central California Appellate Advocacy Program, as a Board Member of GBLA, and with other community focused organizations. Torres is a family man, with a loving wife and five children. Professionally, he strongly believes that the heart of the Constitution is to make sure no innocent man is convicted — that justice and fairness are the objectives. Torres believes in the legal system and feels privileged to be a part of it.
