*Call to Worship

We have come to affirm our historic faith. To worship the God of our mothers and fathers. We have come to remember God’s benefits to us, the living. To respond in thanksgiving to the mighty works of God in our lives. We have come to affirm our trust in the God of all futures, To whose name be blessing and honor, glory and power forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer of Thanksgiving

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Offering Hark! A Voice Saith, All Are Mortal J.S. Bach

Prayer of Dedication

*The Mercersburg Academy Alma Mater

High tower above us her pillars in majesty crowning the hill. She’s faced the wild storm waves of years, and bravely she faces them still.

Come, Mercersburg all, and we’ll praise her. The world will we tell of her fame. Till down the long train of the ages shall echo old Mercersburg’s name.

This world sweeping mightily onward will whiten our heads with its years, but ever we’ll greet Alma Mater with full hearts and loud swelling cheers.

*Benediction

Today’s offering will be donated to My Neighbor’s Bounty in Mercersburg, PA. My Neighbor’s Bounty is a food pantry, serving Mercersburg and the surrounding area. Mercersburg Academy students have worked with the pantry, supporting its mission and providing needed items, when possible.

Please give as you are able.

Restoration work continues on the stained-glass windows in the Irvine Memorial Chapel. We remain grateful for the support of alumni, families, and friends of the Academy who make this work possible. If you have any questions about the stained-glass restoration or the Chapel program at Mercersburg Academy, Dr. Whitmore will be available at the conclusion of today’s service.

The Irvine Memorial Chapel was dedicated in 1926 to the memory of alumni who lost their lives in World War I and the mothers who sent their sons to Mercersburg Academy. The Chapel was rededicated at the school’s centennial in 1993 to the memory and vision of founding Headmaster William Mann Irvine, who walked with God throughout his life in joy and strength and love.
