Our students are challenged and nurtured. Our faculty inspire innovation and collaboration. Our campus is simply spectacular. Our Mercersburg community is passionate. Traditions like Irving and Marshall are as old as our school and are a part of a common heritage that ties each of us to every single Mercersburg student. We are all a part of the LONG BLUE LINE of philanthropy that has defined Mercersburg since 1893, and together we honor the past by investing in the future through the
Mercersburg Annual Fund.
Our students are given tools to become … independent and self-directed learners … original and discerning thinkers … determined and aspirational change makers … compassionate and engaged global citizens And the Mercersburg Annual Fund helps students embrace new opportunities every year.
Students visit with children at an orphanage on a school trip to Vizag, India.
Take Conner Caruso ’16 for example … … along with classmate Elliot Hicks ’16, he created a 3-D-printed controllable hand that received national attention on the Internet hardware website Hackster.io … he was part of a three-person Mercersburg team that competed in the RoboCup Junior International 2016 in Leipzig, Germany … he is attending the University of Virginia Your participation in the Annual Fund provides access to this type of life-changing education.
The Annual Fund provides mission-critical support to Mercersburg: 10 percent of the operating budget each year. Gifts allow our
faculty
to engage in a teaching methodology that is creative, courageous, and consequential. Whether it’s through trapping hawks, visiting the U.S. Supreme Court, or using an iBook custom tailored for a course, the goal is to ignite a passion for discovery.
In his 24th year of teaching, language faculty member Tom Thorne wrote his own Latin iBook.
Elisa Gan ’16, a self-described bookworm, came from a city of 10 million people to “a little utopia surrounded by immense fields of corn” to become … a prefect in South Cottage … the editor-in-chief of The Mercersburg News … a rock climber in Mercersburg Outdoor Education … a Writing Fellow, an AP Scholar, and a member of the Fifteen Elisa was transformed into a young woman prepared to take on any challenge. She is now attending Middlebury College.
