Destination: Mercersburg Kick off Summer 2018 with four days of fun! From Thursday, June 7, to Sunday, June 10, the campus is all yours. Your reunion committee has helped the school plan a one-of-a-kind weekend that offers something for everyone. Classes ending in 3 or 8 will celebrate their reunions, and all Mercersburg alumni, their guests, and friends of the school are invited to attend.


HOW TO REGISTER Register at mercersburg.edu/reunionweekend. Come for the entire weekend! All-inclusive packages are available at early-bird rates before May 1:

$200/person for the 5th, 50th, and

Loyalty Club classes (a savings of $115)

$265/person for all other classes

(a savings of $50)

These packages include three nights of dorm lodging, campus activities, meals, and alcoholic/nonalcoholic beverages. (Additional fees will apply for dorm single occupancy, off-campus activities, and childcare.) If dorm lodging isn’t your thing, a list of local accommodations can be found on the reunion web page. Can’t make it on Thursday? Check the registration form for a la carte pricing.

EXPLORE LOCAL ON THURSDAY Gettysburg National Military Park 11 a.m. ($35) The town of Gettysburg witnessed the most significant battle of the Civil War. Get an insider’s tour with certified battlefield expert Jeff Driscoll ’68 and faculty emeritus Ray Larson.

Penn National Golf Club 12 p.m. ($35) Penn National is among the highestrated golf courses in the Mid-Atlantic. Get your foursome together for a nine-hole scramble hosted by Honor Zimmerman ’08.

Educational Athletics: Beyond the T-shirt Slogan Betsy Mitchell ’83, P ’15 Done well, competitive sports teach young people important character lessons, competitive and collaborative skills, and how to just plain work hard and have fun. Hear perspectives on the crazy youth sports culture, collegiate recruitment and participation, and why American sports are worthwhile. Betsy Mitchell ’83, P ’15 is director of athletics, physical education, and recreation at California Institute of Technology. Betsy earned a gold medal and silver medal in swimming at the 1984 Summer Olympics and a silver medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics.


Saturday, June 9 • 1 p.m. The Tumultuous ’70s and How Rock and Roll Got Us Through Hon. John Jones ’73 and Jeff Breit, Esq. ’73

Named one of TIME magazine’s “100 Most Influential People of the Year,” John Jones ’73 is a U.S. district judge for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

Hear from two career attorneys who have been a part of some of the most fascinating cases that the American legal system has produced in recent years: from the constitutionality of same-sex marriage to personal injury litigation surrounding the Deepwater Horizon explosion and BP oil spill. To keep it groovy, the presenters will also throw it back to the rollicking ’70s—a time when rock and roll really rocked—by sharing some of their Mercersburg stories.

A veteran of more than 200 jury trials, Jeff Breit ’73 is an adjunct professor of law at the College of William & Mary and practices law in Virginia with his firm Breit Drescher Imprevento.

Class Tents: Your Headquarters on Campus Every reunion class will have a tent on the quad: a place to hang out with classmates, strum a guitar, and page through old copies of the KARUX. Your reunion committee will lead the charge on decorating, and a panel of judges will award the coveted class cup for best tent on Saturday night. Bragging rights are at stake!


FAMILY FUN Help your kids or grandkids fall in love with Mercersburg just like you did!

Legacy Campout

While you’re attending your class dinner and dance on Saturday evening, your kids or grandkids can enjoy dinner, games, music, s’mores, and a campfire on back campus. Sponsored by Mercersburg Summer Programs, it’s the perfect overnight introduction to Mercersburg—free of charge!

Quad Games

Enjoy a game of KanJam, some bean bag toss, or an ol’-fashioned sack race. Don’t forget your Frisbee or football!

Childcare

Childcare up to 12 years of age is provided by nearby First United Daycare on Thursday from 5:30 to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 5:30 to 11 p.m. The fee of $25 per evening includes dinner and snacks. Each additional child or grandchild is $5 per evening.

Family-Friendly Dorm

One of the dorms will be designated for families with young children, providing the option of a kid-friendly environment.
