Emirates Sukuk In March 2015, Emirates successfully priced USD 913,026,000 Sukuk Certificates with the benefit of a guarantee by Her Britannic Majesty’s Secretary of State acting by the Export Credits Guarantee Department (ECGD) of the UK Government. The proceeds from the issuance were used to fund the acquisition of four Airbus A380-800 aircraft. This landmark transaction marks the world’s first Sukuk financing supported by ECGD and the largest ever capital markets offering in the aviation space with an Export Credit Agency guarantee. NBAD acted as a Joint Structuring Agent and Joint Bookrunner recognizing our position at the forefront of aircraft financing innovation.

Unsecured Bond Bank of Sharjah’s USD 500 million debut Senior Unsecured Bond issuance in May, 2015 was a true transition in the Bank’s presence in the international Capital Markets. Islamic Sukuk NBAD led the first Islamic Sukuk issuance out of MENA in 2015, having been mandated as Joint Lead Manager & Bookrunner on Dubai Islamic Bank’s USD 1billion Perpetual Capital-boosting Sukuk in January. This key transaction attributed to NBAD’s recognition as the Number 1 Global Sukuk arranger throughout Q12015. NBAD successfully managed to source out a majority of orders, with 91% allocation to MENA investors. This IPO was listed successfully in October, 2014 for 2,000 million ordinary shares. The Wholesale Banking, Private Banking, NBADS, Commercial Banking and Retail Banking RMs were instrumental in this achievement by successfully securing investments from their clients during fundraising and working closely with Merchant Banking, the Bookrunner. Equity book building was a first for NBAD and despite the considerable pressure that came from this novel approach for the Bank, as a team the Bank put in an excellent performance and emerged successful.

• Debut bond issuance for HIKMA, the FTSE 100 multinational pharmaceutical group. This was the first corporate Euro bond issuance from Jordan. • Debut capital markets transaction for the Emirate of Sharjah. This was a first debut sovereign 10-year sukuk issue. • NBAD acted as sole lender for a AED750 million real estate receivables-backed financing for Al Futtaim, in support of the refinancing and reorganization of Dubai Festival City. NBAD was mandated on a sole basis despite considerable competition from other banks. • NBAD undertook the market hedge and interest rate swap auction coordination for a regional client, hedging a multi-bank facility. Using NBAD’s Cayman SPV, we minimized execution costs for the client, whilst enabling a smooth process to share the ancillary derivative business around the client’s relationship bank group.
