Electricity customer numbers were 408,000 at the end of September, up by 15,000 when compared to the prior comparable period though down from a peak of 412,000 at 30 June 2010. The customer growth translated to a residential sale volume increase of 12 percent on the same quarter last year. Mighty River Power’s total generation volumes in the first quarter of the 2011 financial year were 1,831GWh, 34 percent higher than in the same period last year. Geothermal volumes (calculated on an equity share basis) were up by 54 percent - reflecting the contribution of the Nga Awa Purua Geothermal Power Station commissioned in April 2010. Hydro volumes

were up 26 percent on the prior comparable period due to the Waikato region experiencing heavy rainfall during the period. The first three weeks of September 2010 were the wettest ever recorded in September. Wholesale prices averaged $52/MWh over the quarter, up on the $45/MWh of last year, but still very low on a long-term basis, reflecting high hydro storage throughout the country and the benign national demand conditions.
