An overview of Development Projects in Kenya Having development projects in Kenya in place is a way of strengthening the economy in many different small ways. These projects are different; some aim at helping specific segments of the community, other to improve safety, enhance social and cultural aspects and generally improving the living standards of the people in the society. Most of these projects are also aimed at creating a sustainable living standard for everyone in the society. Once sustainable living is achieved, then it is a stepping stone to economic growth and sustainability. The development projects that we have in Kenya today are either funded by the government or nongovernmental organizations (NGOs). Most of the NGOs however are usually established for the sole reason of bringing development to the communities around them. Some of the projects are also undertaken by volunteers; people who sacrifice their time, energy and other resources to ensure that someone somewhere gets an easy life, even if not entirely.

Every project that is planned and executed usually has a goal pegged to it and development projects in Kenya are the same. The following are some of the goals of development projects established in Kenya every now and then, depending on the type of project it is:

Provide access to basic amenities

One of the goals of development projects in Kenya especially at the community level is to provide basic amenities to members of the society. These projects are usually executed in rural areas that have little access to such amenities. These include hospitals, water sources, energy, schools, and other amenities that may be found lacking. www.hmds.or.ke

Eradicate poverty

Another goal of development projects in Kenya is to eradicate poverty in communities. This is where the project managers and the other stakeholders in the project will find out ways of eradicating poverty in given areas then execute it. For instance in dry areas, they could introduce irrigation and green house farming so that crops can still be grown despite the harsh weather conditions. The community can be educated on how to go about it. They can grow crops for food, and sell the excess. Build and maintain good roads

Most of the roads in Kenya are either impassable or do not exist at all. Another goal of development projects is to ensure that Kenyan road are accessible and are maintained to stay in good condition for a long time. Some roads are also expanded to ease congestion and hence save a lot of time while on the road.

Empower the communities involved

The height of ignorance is increasing especially in rural areas where there is little exposure. Some of the development projects in Kenya are usually geared towards empowering the communities on the issues that affect them, and they can avoid it only that they have no idea they could. These empowerment projects include enlightening women on the benefits of family planning, delivering in health facilities and attending pre-natal and post-natal clinics. They are also geared towards teaching young people the dangers of having unprotected sex, and abortions. Some of these projects are also meant to educate the communities on the dangers of HIV/AIDS and other venereal diseases, how to protect oneself, and how to live positively whether you are infected or affected.
