MISSION & PURPOSE

The mission of the Central Ohio Tra u m a S y s t e m ( COT S ) i s t o r e d u c e injuries and save lives by improving and coordinating trauma care, emergency care, and disaster preparedness systems in Central O h i o . COT S i s t h e r e g i o n a l t ra u m a system ser ving Central and par ts of S o u t h e a s t e r n O h i o.

COT S a d d r e s s e s a n e e d t h a t i s o t h e r w i s e unmet among its stakeholders— that of coordinating system-wide improvements in emergency medical care and medical surge capabilities in C e n t ra l O h i o. COT S s e r v e s a s a f o r u m , as a clearinghouse for information, as an exper t resource, and as a major driver of improvements in the region.

T O TA L ACCIDENTS FOR FRANKLIN COUNTY

The distribution of injuries requiring 48 hour hospitalization is throughout the c o u n t y. T h e f o l l o w i n g s p r e a d d e p i c t s the total number of accidents by categor y (motor vehicle, falls, firearms).

It can be concluded that falls are the number one source of accidents within the county followed by motor vehicle crashes then firearm accidents.

These accidents are fur ther broken up i n t o f o u r q u a d ra n t s o f t h e c o u n t y. T h e q u a d ra n t s a r e b r o k e n d o w n e v e n f u r t h e r in the follwing pages.

A g e i s a l s o a n i m p o r t a n t f a c t o r. Residents 15-44 years old in Southeast a n d S o u t h w e s t q u a d ra n t s h a v e a greater risk for motor vehicle related hospitalizations than residents 15-44 in t h e o t h e r t w o q u a d ra n t s .
