DAY 14: SINGAPORE CITY
Blair Plain neighbourhood, Orchrad Road and Labrinth BLAIR PLAIN
In the moring we’re doing a 2km (two hours and a half) walking tour through the shophouses in Blair Plain, the artsy neighbourhood of the city, that is worth of a visit due to its beautifully preserved buildings that are unique to the island and that combine Chinese and Western architecture. It’s about architecture, but there are also multiple art galleries where local artists expose their pieces, hidden cafés... Where we’ll also have a snack. The tour is by Everyday Tour Company. We’ll come back to the hotel for lunch, and later on, we’ll spend our last afternoon in the most comercial street, Orchid Road, to feel its own vibrant atmosphere, where you can not just go shopping but also have a couple of drinks, since at this stage you’ll be able to move freely through its streets. To leave with a good taste in the mouth, we’ll end the evening and the whole trip having a really nice dinner at the michelin starred Labyrinth restaurant, specialised on innovative singaporian cuisine. Their concept is about taking ecognisable local flavours and tastes remembered from childhood to then, reimagine and reinterpret them, using superlative ingredients from across Singapore. As a result, an exciting, original and unforgettable set menu that surprises, amuses and satisfies the customer. WHY?
Firstly, we chose the shophouse tour to go a bit deeper into the culture, and not just stay with the history but also explore the artistic side of the city, since we think art is the best way to know a city and a culture, plus, we really like it and it’s a completely different side of what we’ve seen so far. In addition, Orchrad Road is a must of Singapore, and we’d love to wonder by its streets and feel the vity by ourselves, which we can do in the safety and vibrantness of the centre. We can buy some souvenirs too, since it’s the last day. Finally, we wanted to end the journey with another culinary experience, since it’s what we wanted to discover from Singapore, only that this is completely different than the others, because tradition actually takes part in it, mixed with innovation; as a summary of the whole stay.
