GUIDING PRINCIPLES A) KEY FEATURES: An agate precious stone wall will be added in the cafe for daily inspiration. In addition, the male and female dormitory will have focal walls filled with art. They can and will most definitely be replaced with the children’s own art work, that are created in the downstairs crafts room. B) BUILDING LAYOUT AND WAYFINDING: The building will be laid out by first floor and second floor. First floor will be the business aspect of the building and the second floor will be the residential section of the building. We will be show wayfinding through lighting in the corridors. C) DAYLIGHT: A majority of the building are curtain walls. This was done on purpose in order to have as much natural light as possible. Sherwin-Williams Stone Lion SW7507

SOLUTION STATEMENT 1) ENERGY MANAGEMENT: Considering the fact the ceiling height is 12’ there will be light fixtures inset into the wall at 11’ AFF. These’s will be added in all the corridors as a means of way finding. In addition, all lighting will be on dimmers as a way of light preservation. 2) FLOORING SELECTIONS: While keeping a cohesive vision in mind we decided to go with hard wood throughout the first floor and second floor, and in the restrooms we went with a faux wood tile to keep the look uniform. 3) SECURITY SYSTEMS: There is 24/7 security supervision. The receptionist, females, or males can page them at any time, and during closed operation hours there is always someone on site. There are security cameras at all major points of the building. On the second floor there are key card padlocks in which only the females can access their area, and only the males can access their area. This will insure safely of all the children. 4) MATERIALS AND FINISHES: The main focus of this space was the second floor residential area. This is the childrens sanctuary where they will most likely be spending a lot of there time. For the females area we kept the pinks purples and whites and greys to give off an uplifting feel. For the males area we stuck with the blues, greens, greys, and metals tones. We wanted this space to have a cool urban feel where they can relax and play with there gaming systems!

5) ADA/ UNIVERSAL DESIGN: The entire design process was based with universal design in mind. We won’t find any corridor or turning point with less then 60” turnaround. This applies to the restrooms as well. All restroom on site have an ADA compliant stall included.

design presentation. Combining a variety of software, reproduction methods, and digital rendering techniques, students explore ways to manipulate images into a cohesive graphic presentation.
CONCEPT STATEMENT The approach to the Chan residence kitchen remodel began by rearranging cabinetry and adding an island to ground and better utilize the space.

requirements in creating a larger feel within the existing space. The character of the kitchen is defined as contemporary. The kitchen will be unified
with dark grey shaker cabinetry, and an accent of white cabinetry in the butler’s pantry. An island prep area will be created to provide ample work
space, and a possible gathering area. Throughout the kitchen commercial
grade appliances and technology will be used as applicable. Ultimately, the
kitchen will portray the style and needs of the Chan residence in order to bring them a social yet functionalspace.

CHICAGO LOFT: RE-DESIGN INTB302 RESIDENTIAL DESIGN II This course is the design and presentation of a complex residential project with an emphasis on historic precedent.
CONCEPT STATEMENT Our client is an Audio Engineer Composer and Producer. He
works with groups ranging from one or two people to eight to twelve. He also composes for movies, commercials, and TV
shows. Ryan enjoys collecting interesting rocks and asteroids. His space requires not only a living space, but a recording
studio as well. In this space we are going for an industrial yet
rustic look. Using lots of metal tones and organic wood finishes will really warm up the space. Paint will be kept neutral and
you will see pops of color in the furniture and accessories. A
custom fixture will be created in order to display the assortment of collectibles. Within the studio we are using double interior
walls to ensure acoustics is top notch, since this is a record-
ing studio no sound can leave anyone room you are in or else
sound will escape, hence ruining the sound. In addition, double
industrial doors will be used when entering any one space within the studio, again this is helping with acoustics. While keeping
within these guidelines ADA codes still need to be kept in mind.
All though this is a residential space, part of it is still being used commercially, so 36 doors, 60 turnarounds, fire retardant
materials, etc. are crucial. We are working within a tight budget here, a majority of the budget will be invested into the studio,
since this is the most important part of the space. All furniture
will be found at resale shops or on a discount in order to stick within the budget.
