Centers for Independent Living

Centers for Independent Living (CILs) are nonresidential, nonprofit organizations designed to provide services that maximize the independence of individuals with disabilities and seniors within their community.

They provide an array of independent living services, including the core services of information and referral, peer counseling, advocacy and Independent Living (IL) skills trainings within their communities.

The 22 Centers for Independent Living throughout the state are community – based and consumer-controlled (operated by individuals with disabilities – 51% of staff and board must have a disability).

Programs and services provided by the CILs to consumers result in individuals accessing community resources necessary to manage their personal needs.

CILs are funded through Missouri’s House Bill 2002, as well as private and federal grants.
