What people are saying about our books . . .
“This is a great volume for kids learning to read. It doesn't just have definitions but explains words in a fun way and has little cute pictures that provide some clues for context as they sound out words. The entries are at a great reading level with a few challenging words. My kid loves reading from this and selecting an entry or two each day.” Customer Review

MERRIAM-WEBSTER KIDS
Introduction Children learn language from their parents and families. Research shows that young children learn words most easily when parents and caregivers use single words and short phrases to narrate and describe what the child and the caregivers are doing throughout the day. Incorporating these short descriptions into the child’s daily routines and play activities is a simple way for parents to encourage language learning. In addition to providing pictures of common items in a child’s life, this book is intended to give models of the kinds of short comments that fit well into a child’s daily routines. Over 150 new words and phrases are included in the text. Once children start to talk, repeating their words and adding a little bit to what they say encourages them to say more. Parents can help with language understanding by asking simple questions about the 90+ photos shown along the page borders, such as “Where’s the duck ” or “Who’s running ” And then encourage the child to point to the appropriate picture. Using simple language with lots of expression while communicating with your child creates a lifelong bond. Claire Laties Davis MS, CCC-SLP
