COVID-19 Safety Measures*
The health and safety of our Merriam Community Center patrons and staff continue to be our top priority. MCC staff will go through daily health screenings and won’t come to work if they have a fever or other COVID-19 symptoms. We encourage you to wash your hands often or use our handsanitizing stations throughout our facility, and make sure you're physical distancing from other patrons.
Masks
You’re required to wear a mask inside the facility unless you're on a piece of fitness equipment, working out, or in your assigned spot during a fitness class. Masks must be worn while in transition between pieces of fitness equipment and while collecting any equipment needed inside the fitness classroom. All staff will wear face masks.
Physical Distancing
In the fitness area, alternating pieces of equipment will be closed or floor markings have been added to meet physical distancing guidelines of at least 6 feet. Floor markings have also been added to the fitness room floor to provide 10 to 12 feet between participants. Throughout the facility, additional floor markings have been added anywhere that patrons may be required to line up.
Cleaning Protocols
MCC staff has a detailed plan to separate clean and used equipment – from the pens you use to sign any paperwork to weights, strength equipment, and cardio gear. We will frequently clean and disinfect our building and sanitize hightouch areas.
Aquatics
Aquatic classes begin in September, and open swim is scheduled to start in October. Swim lessons and classes will have a limited number of participants to allow for physical distancing.
Child Watch
Child Watch won't be offered until the State of Kansas enters the Phase Out stage of the Ad Astra Reopening Plan.
Rental Space
Birthday party packages and rental space won't be offered at this time. Space will be available throughout the facility, including meeting rooms, classrooms, the gymnasium, and indoor and outdoor pools. Visit merriam.org/rentals for more information on future rentals.
*This is our COVID-19 plan as of now, but it continues to be fluid. We’ll make any necessary changes as we evaluate the opening of our new community center. Visit merriam.org/mcc for policy updates.
