MARY BATYI

BRITISH COLUMBIA 2015 AMBASSADOR

Typically every great farewell starts and ends with a quote, so I searched.. and I searched.. and nothing I found was quite right to describe how I felt. I was stumped, puzzled even. With more thought I was brought back to what it was that connected me to Ambassador Programs in the first place. One simple word: “passion.” The British Columbia Ambassador Program allowed me to follow my passions to become a role model and an active member of my community. The program encourages the youth of B.C. to strive to be successful, to never stop learning, to lead like the future leader you hope to be and most importantly to smile and have fun. These are lessons (just to name a few) that I will continue to use for the rest of my life thanks to this program. I’m currently studying American Sign Language & deaf studies at Vancouver Community College with the goal of becoming an interpreter someday. During the year I was able to advance my education thanks to the scholarships I was awarded by the British Columbia Ambassador Program while still being close to home and other local ambassador programs in the Lower Mainland. With this journey coming to a close I have many people to thank for their unwavering support. With the guidance of my mentors, friends and family I’ve been given the ability to grow & prosper and wouldn’t be the person I am today without their encouragement and beautiful smiling faces. To the Lady of the Lake Ambassador Program: thank you for being the foundation I needed to build myself up to success. I will forever be grateful for all the opportunities you created for me. I hope to continue to lend a helping hand whenever I can because I truly believe that the Lady of the Lake program changes the lives of the young women of Cowichan Lake and allows them to see their full potential as leaders, just as it did for me. To the ambassador programs and Sparkleheads throughout British Columbia: thank you for your warm hospitality. I really felt welcomed every community I visited and always learned something new while having a great deal of fun. The dedication each community had to the ambassador programs and the young participants is very admirable and their hard work does not go unnoticed! To the British Columbia Ambassador Committee: If I only had three words to describe the committee they would be: dedicated, enthusiastic and hard-working. Your time and efforts are valued by me and everyone involved in this wonderful program. The committee is the heart and soul of the British Columbia Ambassador Program and the difference they make is nothing short of legendary. Thanks for letting me be nothing but myself! Looking back, I believe this has been a time of self-discovery and has helped me in many ways. This adventure is one I will never forget and always keep close to my heart. The British Columbia Ambassador Program gave me a chance to fulfil my full potential and do things I couldn’t have imagined being able to do before and for that I am truly grateful. -Mary Batyi British Columbia Ambassador 2015

BRITISH COLUMBIA 2015 AMBASSADOR

If you have ever experienced a life changing moment, you know that your life does not stop changing just because the moment has ended; it continues to change you and shape you for the rest of your life. As I pass on this great opportunity of becoming a British Columbia Ambassador, I can not help but think back to last year when I was unsure what this path would hold. I have had the privilege of exploring my beautiful province, making connections with unique and talented young men and women along the way, volunteering with amazing organizations and like minded people, and positively changing in countless aspects of my life. This has inspired me to take a path I never imagined I would. This coming fall I will be furthering my volunteer and humanitarian efforts in Thailand and Cambodia, teaching english and participating in a clean water project. All of this knowledge and opportunity I have been given would not have been possible without the support of countless volunteers and a strong support system. Thank you to all of the ambassador programs across British Columbia. You shape the lives of youth in the province with all of the hard work and dedication you put into these programs. A special thank you to the Kamloops Ambassador Society; the foundation for which I have based my ambition upon. All of the invaluable lessons, skills, and encouragement you have given me led me to the BC Ambassador program. To the British Columbia Ambassador Committee. Thank you for your devotion and commitment that has made this year so special. You are like family to me and you will always be close to my heart. Mary and Rachael, even though we did not see each other often, you taught me so much about what is means to be a team. I am definitely blessed to have all of you in my life. Lastly, thank you to my biggest supporters, my family. You gave me e so much love and encouragement when I decided to do this program. I could not have done it without you. I have loved every minute of representing beautiful British Columbia ia and I will not soon forget all the lessons it has taught me. Now, as my duties as British Columbia Ambassador come to a close, I can not wait to see what opportunities will arise next. “This is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.” - Winston Churchill With Love, - Tess Russell British Columbia Ambassador 2015

RACHAEL TEBULTE BRITISH COLUMBIA 2015 AMBASSADOR

“Once upon a time” is how many great stories begin, and it was how I began my reign as a British Columbia Ambassador. This past year has written an incredible chapter in my life as I represented B.C., my community and sponsors. There are many people I would like to thank for contributing support over the last year. To the Castlegar Queens Committee; Carol and Catherine, I cannot thank you enough for your support, your love and guidance, which led me to accomplish things I never imagined I would be able to. Thank you to my community, Castlegar, Mayor Chernoff and Council; I loved having the opportunity and the resources you gave me to share with others the wonderful and beautiful community I come from. It has been a honour to represent our city on a provincial level. I would like to also thank the Royal Canadian Legion for sponsoring me during my Miss Castlegar candidacy and continuing to do so into my journey as a British Columbia Ambassador, along with the Selkirk Lions and Sutco Transportation, your support throughout my BC Ambassador candidacy. It is very much appreciated and I would not be here without it. To my family you have been there every step of the way this past year and a half your encouragement, support will forever be cherished. Thank you to the British Columbia Ambassador Committee, you ladies are truly remarkable, the way you empower the youth within our province is so inspiring and I am honoured to have been given this opportunity, as the skills I have learned throughout this program I will be able to use for the rest of my life. To my team members Mary and Tess, you two are incredible and I am thrilled that I got to share this year with you both. I had a wonderful time spending the weekend with you ladies in Victoria and getting to know you better and I know that we will remain friends in the future. Although there are many y chapters to be written in my life I know when I look back at this chapter it will be one of the highlights. Love, Rachael TeBulte

Brooke Mapstone KELOWNA Brooke is 19 years old and plans on returning to Okanagan College to complete her associate of the arts degree. Born and raised in Kelowna, Brooke was honoured to represent her community as Miss Kelowna Lady of the Lake in 2014. After completing her year as Miss Kelowna, Brooke felt the program was rewarding for youths who wanted to build awareness of themselves as an individual. She wanted to continue her journey of encouraging youth with getting involved with the community as well as becoming aware of themselves, so she decided to run for the British Columbia Ambassador Program. Between both her part-time job as a server, as well as a few summer courses, Brooke enjoys spending her free time outdoors and exploring all the hidden wonders in Kelowna. She is passionate about staying active, as she often explores Okanagan Lake on her kayak, or adventures out hiking trails throughout the Okanagan. One day she wishes to become a teacher and travel around the world to teach english to children. The best piece of advice that she can give is a quote from one of her favourite authors, Dr. Suess: “Don’t cry because it’s over smile because it happened.”

Congratulations! We are extremely proud of you and what you have accomplished. We wish you the very best of luck. Miss Kelowna Lady of the Lake Society
