Barbara Ann Joe

Barbara left us peacefully to meet the ancestors at the age of 76. She wasabeautiful woman and had three children Paul Joe, Debbie Joe, and Lennard Joe (Kristy). She wasagrandmother to Kwem, Roipellst, Nexpetko, Hydaya, Maddox, Seraphina, and Paige, all of whom she lovedsomuch. She leavesbehind her sisters Rita Manuel, Doreen Swakum, Judy Swakum, and Donna Robins.

Barbara waspredeceased by her parents Henry and Seraphine Swakum.

Barbara grewuponthe Shulus Indian Reserveand attended Kamloops Indian Residential School from Grade 3-12. She lovedtodance and was part of the dance troop there. She met and married Percyand had Paul before theymovedtoVictoria where Percywas in thearmy.Soon after that she had twins, Debbie and Lennard and the family movedback to Shackan Indian Reservewhen Percybecame Chief in 1971. She wasone of the founding employees of the newly established Nicola ValleyIndian Administration office and started at the front desk in 1974. We have heard manystories from our past and current leaders that she wasthe one who would takethem under her wing and showthem the procedures and protocols for their newroles. She would carry on that task and carry the corporate memory until 1990 when she got sick and could no longer work.

She wasaliver transplant survivorin1991 and wasgiven 11 additional years butsurpassed that by being one of the longest living livertransplant survivors (29 years)! During those years she traveled with her husband Percytothe US numerous times and even tried out retirement as asnowbird in Arizona for astint. She lovedcasinos and visiting. Always with asmile and amemorable laugh.

Her last years were spent under the watchful care of the staffatNicola Meadows. Our family appreciates the care that she receivedand the friends that she made there. We also would liketosend our extreme appreciation to Dr.McLeod who would go out of his waytovisit our mother whenever she wasnot feeling well. We would also liketothank all the staffatthe Nicola ValleyHospital for all you have done for her throughout the years.

Momma, you will be missed by many.

ACelebration of Life will be held at the Shackan Hall on October 9, 2021 followed by the burial of her ashes and laying of her headstone. The family will be following Covid Protocols and request that on that day if you are feeling anysymptoms or signs not to attend.

Wilf Knudslien

August 28, 1933 -September 20th, 2021

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Wilf Knudslien who died on September 20th, 2021 at the age of 88. Wilf wasborn in Riley Alberta he joined the RCAF when he was18years old and served in the Korean War. While Wilf was stationed in Stamford England he met and married his wife June. Theyreturned to Canada and had 5children, 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Wilf wasalong haul transport truck driver, built manyhouses, ran heavy equipment and ended his career as amine manager. Wilf is survivedbyhis wife June of 68 years.

The family would liketothank the staffatthe Coldwater restaurant and the numerous people in town who helped keep Wilf safe and enabled him to maintain his independence.

Love you Dad, thanks for all the manyhome renovations you did for us kids, your beautiful smile and your love.

Philip F. Chambers

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Philip on September 15, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.Heis predeceased by his wife of 69 years Grace. He is survivedbyhis children Donald, Candis, Bob(Ann) and Lisa, 7grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1great great grandchild and his brother Jimmy. Phil wasborn in Merritt then his family movedtoTrail,B.C.during his teenage years. He enjoyed coming back in the summers to his uncle Jim’sranch on Iron Mountain. He spent time in the army and then worked on ranches in the Nicola Valley. Eventually settling on the ranch at Iron Mountain where he and Grace raised their family. Thefamily wishes to thank Dr.Mcleod and Dr.Ross, also the caregivers at Gillis House and nurses at the Nicola ValleyHospital.
