Selected Works

Makerspace Architectural Project Semester 5

I graduated from Istanbul Technical University (ITU), the Department of Interior Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture with GPA 3.64 of 4. I am currently studying architecture as a double major program student and I am going to receive my second bachelor's degree in January 2020. I started the faculty of architecture as an urban planning student at ITU. After one year, I transferred to the department of interior architecture and started the double major program. Thus, I have gained the ability of design approaches in different scales from urban to interior and interdisciplinary teamwork as well. The term of urban interior was also the graduation subject and my project is selected as one of the best projects of the semester. I would describe myself as quick learner, ambitious, responsible and I am meticulous with my work. The following selected projects have been chosen to show my range of works during my education.

City Library Interior Arch. Best Graduation Project of the semester Urban Interior Design %DN×UN|\ 7UDLQ 6WDWLRQ

Today two million people living in Istanbul use railway systems ninety minutes a day. People are transported in an intermodal system between none-place stations. The duration of arriving at somewhere can be turned into an efficient process from time waste. Reading something while traveling is one of the good ways to do that.

Diving into literature takes you away into different worlds and dimensions and the metro line you are in turns into a story line. The only way to understand where you are in reality is to follow the announcements, signs or graphic map which has no geographic data while you are reading deeply in the monotonic linear metro system.

Station libraries can spread and expand through transportation axes as small parts of the City Library and can encourage people to read in urban nodes of the railway system. The City Library is the output of the collective production of citizens. It is a huge book collection that belongs to everyone in the city.

The City Library can be boosted by users and in time it can be transformed into an interconnecting system between people's thought world. Because it is not only a library, it is a communicative platform that everyone shares their thoughts about what they read. It may become an archive of the city’s reading history.

Book Bazaar Bridge

Bazaar Revitalization of existing book bazaar area in the bridge can be a part of the City Library as a source for books. It is not only a space for shopping but it also provides a space for dialogs between seller and readers, and also between other readers. The communicative atmosphere above the book stores provides a platform for sharing thoughts and ideas about books by using the interactions points that hanged on the existing roof structure.

Library You can use your train ticket or your public transportation card to take or leave a book to the city library. If you want to add a new book to the book collection you can get a sticker from kiosks machines to attach on it. Then you can hang the book on bookshelves made out of metal bars.

Bookshelves One of most liked features of the old train station was its landscape design, especially climbing the ivy plants view on the walls. Wall-mounted panels are covering concrete wall appearance and creating a green atmosphere. Also, the ivy cluster covers the top outdoor seating area, it resembles with the form of the historical canopy and provides a semi-open area.

Galata House Museum

Interior Arch. Project Semester 7 Galata House, Karaköy 220 sq.m.

In 1904 the Galata House was built as two floors civil prison controlled by the British in the days when the Ottoman sultans allowed individual nations to punish their own civil wrong-doers. During the occupation of Istanbul by the allied forces the building is used as British Military Police Station. Today it became a restaurant named “Galata Evi-The Galata House”. Ministry of Tourism gave to the restaurant a -special touristic license- because of its historical importance.

2

All these historical layers of the building brought the concept idea of the museum project. Exhibition halls are placed according to intersections of the historical term of the exhibition content and the time of the architectural additions in the building. The first exhibition hall is about Old British Jail and this exhibition is placed in the room where scribbles left by the prisoners on the walls. The second exhibition hall is in the attic floor which is added in the time period of the content of the second exhibition. The third one is in the room with bow window which is added in the time period of the content of the third exhibition.

The Ottoman Empire called ‘the sick man of Europe’ in the mid-1800s was supported by Britian and France against Russia. The Ottoman Empire first entered into loan contracts with its European creditors shortly after the beginning of the Crimean War. Supported by Britain, the Turks took a firm stand against the Russians in the Crimean War. Due to the foreign loans the Ottoman Empire became dependent on the Europe. Due to some privileges Britain began to interfere with internal affairs and settle in Galata.

Bedesten Hotel Int. Architecture Project Semester 6 .DUDN|\ ĂşVWDQEXO 1,000 sq. m.

*DODWD %HGHVWHQ is one of the oldest surviving commercial buildings in Tersane Avenue, KarakĂśy. Due to its former function requires high security its walls are thick and all windows are on high levels. Today it is used as a bazaar for hardware stores. In time modern additionals had changed the building in a negative way. The feeling of trust that a bedesten building creates in people provides to create an atmosphere for UHOD[LQJ. Bedesten Hotel takes advantage of this feeling to host customers and provide them with private experiences. You are in safe between the thick walls and you can enjoy and relax in your room or a massage room in the saloon. The fresh atmosphere with open planned rooms on the upstairs turns into a warm dim atmosphere on downstair with shinning interior materials like copper and YHOYHW textiles which are inspired by the colour palette of the building. Inspired from the meaning of 'bedesten' word the reception wall is covered with velvet fabric which is turquaz colour that comes from the front door colour of the building. In the dark atmosphere, velvet is glaring and black marble reception table makes stronger velvet's effect. Rooms are on the third floor which is the only place that enlightened by natural light in the building. Every room is located under each dome with their RSHQ SODQQHG EDWKURRPV.

CROP FACTORY Architectural Project Semester 6 Aarhus, Denmark 1,600 sq. m.

Normal is gone. Due to the growing world population, it is estimated that global food production will need to increase by 60 percent to feed over 9.5 billion people by 2050 and there is continuously less arable land available. The ever-growing metropolises, which are a result of the enormous demand for city residences, cause an increasing gap between the inhabitants and agriculture. With increasing demand for healthy food, fast-growing urbanisation and climate change, we can't rely on the food production systems of the past any more. Waterfront farming. Urban waterfront sites have traditionally been off-limits to the public on account of their industrial pasts. Over time, however, many of these have become obsolete and even condemned, suffering from pollution, neglect, and decay. As maritime industry relocates and cities evolve, post-industrial urban waterfronts can be reimagined in many ways as resilient community meeting places; as centers for arts, recreation, education and entertainment; and as focal points for civic identity, inspiration, celebration, and public life. Water as transmitting tool. No living being can survive without water for long. In microscale, rainwaters provide nutrients and minerals in vascular systems of plants. Also in macroscale, seawaters play the role of the connector between cities around the world with marine transportation. This is the transmitting power of water. But climate change is having serious impacts on the world’s water systems. Water availability is becoming less predictable in many places and rainwater harvesting becoming a considerable issue.

Denmark While the large urban areas in and around Copenhagen and Aarhus continue to grow up to 2050, more and more rural areas will lose inhabitants. It will be hard to maintain both a job and high standard of living on islands such as Læsø, Langeland and Ærø, which on the other hand will experience a renaissance as beautiful natural areas for recreation.

Aarhus is the second-largest city in Denmark and the seat of Aarhus municipality. The history of Aarhus began as a fortified Viking settlement founded in the 8th century. the Bay of Aarhus provides a natural harbour with a depth of 10 m quite close to the shore.

Port of Aarhus is one of the largest industrial ports in northern Europe with the largest container terminal in Denmark, processing more than 50% of Denmark's container traffic and accommodating the largest container vessels in the world. A part of the container port is being transformed into a vibrant new neighbourhood.

[Ă˜-Haven] Supported by Foreningen Pier 4, a group of landowners, the municipality of Aarhus, and considerable citizen interest, it has become success urban garden currently boasting 150 urban gardeners, the project leaders expect to be able to offer other 150 enthusiasts a place to grow their vegetables and herbs.

In the future scenario of the project, the Crop Factory is proposed for a site located in the outmost harbor front in Aarhus’ new quarter Aarhus Ă˜ where the growing city population became a problem. Locating on the harbor which is former industrial areas and transforming public waterfront spaces can be a good way to create a resilient community, meeting places and also spaces for urban farming altogether. In this way, it can reconnect cities with their shores and create new agriculture lands. The project comes up with the idea of vertical and horizontal farming working together in order for different purposes. Vertical gardens provide mass production by scientists while horizontal gardens are hobby spaces for citizens.

The project becomes a symbol of well being and sustainable development, acting as a community garden hub where people can easily visit and grow their plants. Through vertical stacking of farming decks, the urban farm creates more cultivation space supporting the local food production and distribution while contributing to the improvement of environmental quality. The relations between the vertical and horizontal gardens and public spaces and the lab building were the main design issue. On section diagrams, it is tried to create a separator element while brings these spaces together and connect to each other. The form decisions come from characters of the space functions. The lab has geometric lines due to its formality while the public areas have organic forms.

THIRD ROOF Architectural Project Semester 7 Maรงka, Istanbul 1,500 sq. m.

We all learn differently therefore everyone studies differently, as well. Today how we study also is changing due to changes in our lifestyles and workplace changes are accelerating accordingly. In this project ///Third roof brings this diversity together and provides a holistic workspace where you can access various facilities while you are studying. The characteristic roof cover of the building creates a totalitarian work environment for students of all ages and from different educational backgrounds and creates visual interactions between students to improve the effects of the work atmopshere. This is a place for studying, researching, gathering and socializing... like a third-place that means a community-building or the social surroundings separate from the two usual social environments of home ("first place") and the workplace or school ("second place"). The third roof works as a connector building between the city and the education area where the ITU buildings, high schools, and other education buildings located on a green campus. Surrounding by historical buildings in Maรงka, the roof cover is in search of a contrast form against the fabric of these historic buildings. Thus, the organic form arises from the valley and continues along with the shape of the roof.

OM Waves Form Generation Experimental Study 60x20x20 cm

OM waves is an experimental form generation process that searching about the relation between two-dimensional and three-dimensional curves. 2d mathematical function graphs turn into a 3d wave structure by using the kerfing method which provides turning rigid planar surfaces into flexible ones. Process 1_determining o(x) and m(x) functions according to experiences from the previous modeling studies. 2_choosing an area between o(x) and m(x) function curves on the graph. 3_creating parametric kerfing lines between the two curves by using grasshopper tools in Rhino. 4_making Ă˜1 mm holes to fix metal bars for supporting the waves. 5_laser cutting the final drawing by using 1 mm thickness craft paper. 6_bending the final wave and creating new waves in 3d on a base plate. 7_supporting the final model by sticking metal bars.
