STATEMENTS Andreas Bartmann, Globetrotter “For us, as one of the leading retailers of outdoor equipment, function continues to be essential, even if all of the brands’ collection have become much more fashionable. Outdoor apparel with sporty characteristics is increasingly worn as street fashion in the city. Consumers recognise the added value of these textiles and associate a certain lifestyle with the typically sporty outdoor look, one that they want to integrate into their daily lives. That gives us, as retailers and the industry, an opportunity to take the next important step, namely to establish the theme of sustainability in our society. In no other area are customers as critical and considerate of the environmental aspects of clothing as they are in the outdoor sector, and many brands reflect this. The up-andcoming outdoor trend represents an opportunity to sensitise a broader group of people to this issue and to bring them closer to our sustainable technologies and long-lived products.

Ulrike Luckmann, Journalist
As a journalist, I have been writing about outdoor apparel for many years. I am fascinated by the world of technical fibres and functional fabrics and how quickly they have developed over the last two decades. This development has been about as fast as the development of computers, which are constantly getting more powerful, faster and better. Today there are jackets that weigh only slightly more than a chocolate bar, but are waterproof and breathable or filled with pure down, which protects against cold temperatures. An unbelievable amount of technical expertise goes into outdoor apparel, something that is truly unique in the entire textile apparel industry. Personally, I would favour a more sensible combination of this technical know-how and fashion considerations, although we are seeing some initial steps in this direction. But as a woman, I would like to see dresses, skirts, accessories and a more diverse selection of cuts and silhouettes which have nothing to do with the typical outdoor uniform of trousers and jackets. I am sure a lot of women would love that.
Mice Man, Fashion Blogger Outdoor apparel is advancing these days. This market is indefinable by nature, which it is both its strength and its weakness. The sport-nature trend is still on solid ground: an increasingly urban public that aspires to the great outdoors, the multi-tasking generation, rejecting the spirit of competition, but wishing to engage in sport when and where they want to. Social media favour the outdoors with video posts of sensational experiences captured by small cameras and drones. The outdoor mentality is well in keeping with the spirit of the times: defending the planet, ecology, as well as a desire for freedom and sport with no holds barred. The urban outdoor trend has become a fashion phenomenon that even the large clothing chains have something to say about, which helps muddy the waters. Additionally, a high-end trend has developed with brands from the urban chic clothing world. However, the products involved are much less expensive than the technical lines. Nonetheless, as in the past, the future of outdoor will hinge on the technical aspects of the products and fabrics. “City mice and country mice” have started coming together.

TRAIL RUNNING Double quick through the mountains Trail running, speed cross country, fast hiking and classic orienteering are the central trend theme of virtually all outdoor brand collections in 2015. As a fine art, it has been perfectly implemented in various well-known collections. MATERIAL Innovative materials conjure functionality in outdoor clothing Functional properties of fibres and fabrics are the alpha and omega of outdoor clothing. Who moves in nature, whether it‘s a hike, a hill-walk, climbing, a trail run or an extreme expedition, always carries the „Weather“ uncertainty factor with him. High breathability, excellent moisture wicking and fast drying times are the most important functions that must be fulfilled by materials, and besides this, they should also be summery, light, airy, stretchy, wind-proof and insulating (for cold weather), comfortable to wear, easy to maintain and if possible also have integrated UV protection.
The technical stretch hardshell jacket Croz 3L by VAUDE is very light, stretchy, robust and aimed at mountaineering professionals, whether on a Himalayas expedition or a recreational climb. You can carry the light reliable weather protection, which folds to a very small size, in your backpack, for when „need comes“. Integrated UV protection is extremely useful in outdoor clothing: Eider presents the new mountain sports pants made of Drycore® Bi-Stretch Light Soft. Thanks to incorporated elastane fibres, this lightweight pant fabric offers good freedom of movement and has integrated SPF45 UV protection. This protects the skin and body under the blazing sun in summer. It is well known that dark colours absorb more heat than light ones under the sun, but this is taken well into account in the Coldblack® textile finishes by Schoeller Textil. This effect is especially felt with t-shirts and long-sleeved shirts that are worn close to the skin. Coldblack® reduces the heating of the fabric from the absorption of sunlight. It also provides reliable UV protection of at least UPF 30.

Mammut wants to prove its Alpine performance at a run through the mountains. The new running shirt MTR 201 Tech Shirt Men, proves the importance of new designs and is ideally suited for alpine cross country and trail running. When the trail in the mountainous terrain becomes harder, functionality gets a new meaning and the more extreme conditions become, the better the trail runner should be equipped. The sleeves of the running shirt MTR 201 can be rolled up and rolled down again in no time at all. Thanks to a loop on the wrist and hooks on the shoulder, the warmer long-sleeved shirt becomes a short-sleeved T-shirt, with just one movement. In the new 2015 summer collection, Kjus deploys for the first time the KJUS Air Circulation VentTM ventilation system, which received an ISPO-award for innovative technologies. The Credo men‘s jacket is a waterproof 3-layer jacket, permanently protected from rain and wind by the Dermizax® EV-Membrane with DWR-Technologie. Outdoor clothing with Coldblack® finishing technology from Schoeller Textil displays advanced UV protection. Coldblack® prevents textiles from heating up through absorption of direct sunlight and guarantees a minimum UV protection factor of 30.

For the very first time Kjus has introduced an award-winning technology in the summer collection: The Dermizax® EV membrane with DWR technology is incorporated in the Men‘s Jacket Credo and the ladies jacket for permanent protection against rain and wind. The membrane by Toray provides breathability (water vapour permeability), which is important for mountain sports. The KJUS Air Circulation VentTM ventilation system, praised with an ISPO award, provides for good thermal regulation. It has also been used for the first time in the summer collection, adding adjustable ventilation closures on the forearm, which allow the body‘s heat to be optimally transported to the outside. The 4-way stretch material provides the necessary freedom of movement.
Jack Wolfskin has further developed the proprietary Texapore weather protection technology in the summer collection 2015. In the future, Texapore Softshell shall be linked to the AIR technology to attain higher air permeability at a constant water density. For the first time, the use and skilful combination of different Texapore materials has produced entirely new hardshell hybrid constructions. The completely waterproof Gravity Flow jacket is an alpine hybrid jacket for trekking made of a new Texapore O2 + 2.5-layer laminate that is processed in combination with a 3L-Texapore.Hyproof. The seams are of course welded for water tightness.
Nordisk has developed the probably lightest 3-season synthetic fibre sleeping bag in the outdoor world. The model Oscar only weighs 500 grams.
Even the down feather specialists Yeti focused on lightness in their Strato model. With a weight of just 165 grams, the Strato Down Jacket is probably the lightest down jacket for men on the market. This is possible thanks to the ultra-light, Next-to-NothingTM textile. With a weight of just 19 grams per metre, Yeti employs the world‘s lightest down-proof outer fabric. Despite its lightness, the Strato is impressively stable, durable and permanently down-proof. Besides, it is also water resistant and very breathable. Having an extremely low packing volume, the whole jacket can be stowed in its own left front pocket and carried in the backpack without much loss of space. The light-est 3-season synthetic sleeping bag in the world, according to its manufacturer, is presented by Nordisk with the new model Oscar. It weighs just 500 grams. It is best suited for temperatures around 8 degrees. The outer fabric consists of an ultra-fine and water-resistant 7-a recycled, high-performance synthetic fibre fleece that retains its insulating performance even after numerous washes.
It can hardly get any lighter: Yeti presents the Strato down jacket that weighs unbelievable 165 grams (men‘s model). Its outside consists of the ultra-light Next-to-NothingTM fabric with a weight of only 19 grams/square metre.

Interest in sporting apparel remains strong. In our opinion, current trends clearly point toward versatility. The range of sporting activities is broadening, which makes advanced products for a variety of sports all the more important. Lightness, breathability and thermal regulation are the top trends in functional clothing, states Sarah Seger, Press Spokesperson for Marmot. The OutDoor fashion show will feature a cross section of advanced products for hiking, climbing and trail running as well as relaxed city and travel styles. Functionality and comfort are paramount in these products. Among the highlights for 2015 is the Crux jacket with the new waterproof, breathable Marmot NanoProTM technology. This functional material features a structure of micropores that is finer than any previous materials. The densely packed pores ensure improved breathability while remaining waterproof: not a drop can penetrate. A dynamic air exchange between the skin and the material ensures a comfortable interior climate even during heavy perspiration.
The Crux is feather-light, weighing only 241 grams. Its elastic construction offers freedom of movement, and reinforcements on the shoulders protect the wearer from abrasions in case of falls. The Mono pants, on the other hand, are the perfect choice for difficult climbs both indoors and outdoors. Their soft, breathable material with a sun protection rating of UPF 30 is extremely elastic and has lightweight reinforcements on the knees and seat that protect the wearer from scraping injuries. Marmot has selected clear, pure, expressive and dynamic colours inspired by nature. In addition to the NanoProTM technology, the latest additions to the range of materials include Nanowick, Quickdry and Airflow. Marmot integrates excellent moisture management into all its products. Due to the unique construction of the materials, breathability and dryness have been improved without using additional chemicals.
