Specialty Foods Group donates 23,000 pounds of food during pandemic Andrew Davis

Andrew Davis to speak at November 5 Remote Rooster Booster Andrew Davis is a bestselling author and internationally acclaimed keynote speaker. Before building and selling a thriving digital marketing agency, Andrew produced for NBC’s Today Show, worked for The Muppets in New York and wrote for Charles Kuralt. He’s appeared in the New York Times, Forbes, the Wall Street Journal, and on NBC and the BBC. Davis has crafted documentary films and awardwinning content for tiny start-ups and Fortune 500 brands. Recognized as one of the industry’s “Jaw-Dropping Marketing Speakers,” Andrew is a mainstay on global marketing influencer lists. Wherever he goes, Andrew Davis puts his infectious enthusiasm and magnetic speaking style to good use teaching business leaders how to grow their businesses, transform their cities, and leave their legacy. Following his virtual Rooster Booster appearance, we encourage the community to dive into Davis’s bestselling book, Town Inc. Limited copies will be available at the Chamber office. We would like to extend special thanks to the Mike Horn Foundation for making this appearance possible and the Marilyn and William Young Foundation for sponsoring books for the community.

Specialty Foods Group (SFG) — the maker of Kentucky Legend® and other premium brands of meat — has donated more than 23,000 pounds of its food products since the COVID-19 crisis prompted lockdowns in March of this year. As actions to slow the spread of COVID-19 have placed a strain on numerous industries, the economic ripple effect has been felt in communities across the country — including Owensboro and the larger tri-state area. As a consequence, social services are seeing their resources stretched thin. “We recognize the stress this pandemic has placed upon many families and organizations in our community this year, and likewise the need for us to pull together and help each other through this time,” said Eric Sheiss, SFG’s president.

The donations of hams, sausages, and franks were delivered to various social services and religious organizations in the area, including the Salvation Army, St. Benedict’s Homeless Shelter, Boulware Mission, the Help Office, the Daniel Pitino Shelter, God’s House of Hope, King’s Table Food Pantry, the Christian Food Bank of Hopkins County, and the Senior Community Center of Owensboro-Daviess County. In April, Jerry Moore, an employee at the Daniel Pitino Shelter, which offers housing and meals for those experiencing homelessness, said the increase in demand for services was noticeable. “Our kitchen usually serves between 85 and 100 lunches per day,” Moore said. “But now I’d say we’re averaging about 150, so these food donations are a huge help.”

There is no cost to attend the remote November 5 Rooster Booster, which will be streamed on Facebook Live and Zoom.
