Simplicity. When we began mining for this Volume, I had a few themes in mind. Simplicity sat atop that hill. Not just for snow-specific reasons, but also because of our, generally speaking, ever-cluttered existence, in the physical world, and the digital one (for which my contempt grows stronger each day). But, with that personal issue temporarily shelved, I wanted to again highlight the beauty, power and worthiness of simplicity in our approach to snowboarding. Take this as you may - as a fiscal argument to make snowboarding more “accessible”, as a reactionary impulse after watching Travis’ new movie, or as a youthful (whether in age or at heart) and sincere declaration, the musings of a kid who yearns for those easy-going times spent riding some plastic piece of shit with friends and getting the biggest kick out of it. It’s all been said before, too

COVER STORY

many times, but remains a cause worth advocating. This editorial began as an experiment, the first half since scrapped at the advice of my peers. But I’ll charge forward with the former portion, which begins, “How many people are actually reading this shit?” Anyone? First person to email me (address is to your right) with the subject, “First marijuana overdose” will receive a Method hoodie and a WeTransfer of mediocre porn downloaded when KazaA was still a thing. Additionally, is Ass Cobra from Turbonegro the best album title ever? (Also in the running - Peter Frampton’s, I’m In You.) Blah, - The Mooseman

It was the end of March and my pow season seemed over, until one last storm neared SaasFee. Markus Keller was out and about with the Vans crew along with Pat Moore and filmer Jake Price and hit me up to visit Fredi K in SaasFee. The first bluebird day after the storm we hit the glacier with blower pow. Shreddin’ and shootin’ pow sprays all day - doesn’t get any better than that. On the last run I just asked Keller to do something funny and next thing you know he rides out of his slash as if he’s riding out of a casual 15-foot barrel at Backdoor. Not too shabby of a way to end a season. 85% BULLSHIT

More lies and half-truths than the US election. In all honesty, there are probably more facts listed below than in that circus…

It’s rumored that Kim K had a Method hoodie on during the Paris heist Now is a good time to invest all your money in the snowboard industry You know what doesn’t suck? Getting a 10% discount on your new setup! (Must spend at least $1000, can’t be combined with other vouchers or discounts, only available in certain sub-tropical locales) It seems that the combination of hoodie/no gloves is not the perfect setup for a powder day after all Spending four years and over $5 million guarantees to get you a rad snowboard flick You filthy sinners can receive absolution by transferring money to the Method Church. Hit up info@method.tv for more. Starting from only $10/month Method will be featured in Vogue this winter as the new off-set gear worn by models alongside Thrasher. Clowns hate the French Alps, so you know where to hide. Don’t say we didn’t warn ya! Trump had a hand in the funding of the 4th Phase to increase his polling stats. Questions with: Jye Kearney, Troy Sturrock, Andy James and Marcus Skin What is Odd Folks? We’re a bunch of friends from Australia who grew up snowboarding together. What makes ya any more odd than the rest of us? Jye: We’re from down under and the toilet spins the other way. Andy: Probably because everyone has rocks in their head. Troy: Probably the amount of shit we can talk #pizzatits. Marcus: (Thinking emoji) Was Odd Folks The Movie your first full film? What would you give the experience on a scale of sardines to pizza? Troy: It was our first go at a full film. The longest edit we had ever done before that was four minutes. Stoked on how it turned out after all the time and effort that we put into it.

my first season at Perisher; Troy and Joel hit me up to start filming some shitty edits with them. We didn’t do too much back then ’til I kooked it and broke my back off a jump. After that I pretty much spent all my time on the hill filming the boys. When we started filming the movie we were lucky to get some help from a few filmers, which made life easier for me. Shout out to Finn, Lucas and everyone else who helped out! I still do all the editing by myself, which means a fair few allnighters in the edit den. Who conquered the gnarliest spot? What was it? Troy: Andy James, switch back board through the rusty, gapped kink in Japan, first go... I tried to 50-50 it but got snagged in the gap, did a front flip to my back on the stairs and then started coughing up blood for half an hour. Respect. Anyone get locked up abroad? Marcus: No, but let’s just say Ryza, the photographer, was lucky not to.

Troy: No one ended up getting locked up but the cops in Japan were loose. Our Andy: It was definitely an eye-opening ex- first day in Otaru cops showed up kickperience that one could align closely to ing us out and demanding passports, the delights of your favorite pizza. threatening that if they caught us again we would get fined or locked up. Do you guys not buffet. believe in spotters? Troy: That little woman came out of noDo you guys have a filmer/editor or do where! Our filmer/spotter (Finnegan) had the old “take turns”? tunnel vision and the old duck managed Marcus: I moved into Troy’s house to ninja her way in there.

Marcus: The street was so dead the whole session. Shit was loose... Jye: I blame Finnegan. What’s the affiliation with Shred Bots? Marcus: We were lucky enough to have Torstein approach us and ask if we wanted to start hosting our videos through their YouTube channel. It’s sick to have a whole different crowd seeing our videos now. We’re stoked! Shit, accidentally typed ShredBoys into Google… Kinda creepy. If you came across a video link that said “ShredBoys” would you click it? Would you delete your search history? Troy: www.shredboysnude.tumblr. com Didn’t delete the history. Click for enlightenment. Whose sisters agreed to show their tits for the movie intro? Marcus: Joel’s ex-girlfriend and her horny roommate were down. If any girls out there are down to be in our next movie, DM your tits to @odd_folks. Plans for this season? We have some big plans. For our next movie, we’re trying to get the whole crew involved. After a lot of trial and error with our first film, hopefully this one plays out a bit better. Keep an eye out on the ‘gram for the leaks! *Peep the full video on the Shred Bots YouTube channel.

A: @jetpack5000 is our Instagram handle, our actual name is Jetpack. Jetpack was formed by a group of people brought together by snowboarding. Our origins stem from High Cascade Snowboard Camp where many of us work(ed)/ ride during the summer. After camp initially brought us together, we started to seek each other out during the winter, too. Collectively we have formed an amazing extended family that spans the country, just by riding our snowboards! Where are ya based? M: All over! That’s one of the best parts about us. We get to enjoy and experience everyone’s hometown and current residence with open arms. N: We’re peppered throughout the nation. Mostly in Salt Lake, some in Washington state, and others come and go, living their nomadic way of life. A standard Jetpack morning begins with… M: A relatively humble wake-up call (sufficient rest is important to us, and dependent on the day ahead) followed by some stretching, yoga, and/or foam rolling. Next, a group effort, family-style breakfast, and coffee. Always coffee. Lastly, packing an oversized snack bag and all the supplies for the day.

t’s official: The polar caps are melting at a relentless pace, people worldwide are struck by war and poverty thanks to the neocolonialist interference of Western governments, and, as if to add insult to injury, Brangelina split up just recently. Where are we heading, as a people? While the world is falling apart, our youth is occupied with curating their Facebook accounts and watching endless re-run shows like Dawson’s Creek while sending pictures of their genitals via fax machines. I know what our kids are up to, and, let me tell you, they’re up to no good.

Well, these were the kinds of things that bothered me until I made a recent discovery; someone actually invented an umbrella for shoes. It’s a pair of tiny umbrellas, one for each of your shoes, to shield you from weather events, the tears of impoverished children, and the wicked ways of the world in general. They come in quality fabric and timeless design. Buy them now - just hit up Klaus@Method.tv to get your personal copy and never worry about anything ever again. They come at a price of just $110 each, as long as stock lasts.

From where does your blood run? The name’s Kyle Kennedy, 22 years old, and I basically live at Trollhaugen in Dresser, Wisconsin.

when I get to travel with friends. And by travel, I mean anything from an hour drive down the road, to a 16-hour plane ride to a new country.

What’s in your blood? Snowboarding is fun. Motorcycles are fun. Friends are fun. Beer, ice cream and gummy worms make my world go round.

If you were bleeding out, what would be your last mission? Probably eat some chocolate, and go really fast on a motorcycle.

Who are your blood brothers? The crew from the start is all the Troll kids, which never really stops changing. It’s basically anyone and everyone who rides Troll on a daily basis. But I also ride and travel a lot with all the Interior Plain Project pilots and captain, Pete Harvieux.

Worst bloodshed? Luckily, I haven’t had too many bad injuries. The one I was most bummed about though was at Superpark a couple years ago, at Seven Springs. Third run, checking out the public park or whatever, I ollied off a round, volcano-type snow feature and soon found out that the back What gets your blood pumping? side was a sheer wall with an eight-or-so That’s kind of a hard question - too many foot drop. From where does your blood run? My name is Ralph Kucharek. I’m 24 years old and from Burlington, Vermont.

Conditions and location don’t matter to me as long as there is a good crew and everyone is stoked.

What’s in your blood? Vermont, snowboarding, fly fishing, family, friends and good times. I think a little mono is mixed in there too from my teenage years.

Got any bad blood? Climate change. Regardless of our backgrounds, we are all on this planet together, so let’s start changing our ways and work together.

17.2 FRESHMEAT with

From where does your blood run? Hey buddies, I’m Jakob Wolak, 18 years old, straight from the mountains of Zakopane in the south of Poland. Raised by older brothers who introduced me to snowboarding and all the pleasures that come with it. What’s in your blood? I’m super hyped on traveling and exploring Mother Earth, especially places where you can surf, snowboard or rock climb. I’ve got kind of a child’s curiosity, so I like to visit new places and do new things. Who are your blood brothers? My two older brothers, the guys from RawHollow filming crew and all of the homies from Zakopane. You’ll run into some these guys on the top of the mountains and some in the park, so no matter where you go, there will be homies around! What gets your blood pumping? Psychedelic music and the view of fresh snow. If you were bleeding out, what would be your last mission? I would get some weed and run down from one of those crazy mountains in Alaska, dying in a avalanche, ha! Sounds like a nice end.

What makes your blood run cold? Global warming - this shit pisses me off. But it does seem like we are going to have a pretty nice winter this season. Keep your fingers crossed, buddies. Blood on my hands… If I’m guilty of something I usually don’t remember it, I just hear about it the day after… Life goes on and nobody cares! Got any bad blood? Yeah, everybody does! I regret being a skier until the age of 9. After this, there is nothing to call out. Who keeps the blood flowing? Lib Technologies, Bent Metal, Palto and RawHollow. Written in blood… Polish snowboarding is still buried underground, but we are getting better! There is a lot of talent in this new generation. Thanks for being interested in us! I invite everyone to check out our snowboard movie, Behind The Mentality that will be released at the end of November. High five to each homie who combines his life with the board, because it’s all about the board!

What are some other animals you had on the farm growing up? We had sheep; that’s our main thing, a big old herd of sheep. We had anywhere from 50 to 100 sheep depending on how many babies we had. How old is this tortoise? Are you worried about the kind of fucked up shit he is going to have to see in like 100 years? Dude, yeah! We’ve probably had him for seven or eight years and when we got him we were guessing that he could be somewhere around 40 years old. So he is close to 50 and he is going strong! He’s such a crazy little thing! If I could have any animal talk on the farm, it would be him. He is native to Africa and he was brought to the clinic by a guy who saw him through the scope of his gun while he was shooting gofers in his fields. ing the video up right now. It should be out in the next couple weeks, hopefully! We are going to premiere it here in Bend and then put it online. Our plan for Shorts and Shades since we made the second or third one has been to make 10 videos. So we are going to go one more season and that will be the last one we ever do, and we are going to make it a legit documentary about Shorts and Shades after it comes out. Here’s something I’ve always wondered, why Tre Squad? This is great. OK, so Tre Squad history… Right now it is basically me, my brother and our homies Logan and Lucas. It’s kind of mostly Bend people, but we’ve always been accepting of anyone else who wants to rep it. We are down. And then there’s Lick the Cat, which shares a lot of members, like I am part of both. But Tre Squad pretty much started with my friends Logan Beaulieu, Ian

Borgman and Wilson McLain - Bend homies from growing up. It was those three dudes and it was a rap squad, before we even started snowboarding, like in middle school. And those dudes would just make raps and called it Tre Squad for the three of them. Then I started snowboarding with Logan and we started making these videos and were like, “Fuck, let’s just call this Tre Squad, too.” If you watch Shorts and Shades 1 and 2, Ian and Wilson are in it and it’s super funny because they don’t really snowboard or ski but they are in there getting loose with us. We just kept running with it. *Full interview on MethodMag.com

ver the past two years, the Full Moon crew has scoured British Columbia and beyond in their quest for deeper pow and steeper lines. As much as their brand new release is a forward-looking film, smashing through any perceived limits of women’s snowboarding, the movie makes a point of reflecting on and incorporating the females who initially paved the way. And they succeed in both endeavors, and more. It would be a gross misstatement to label this simply a good women’s film. This is a killer snowboard movie, and here we offer up your tangible teaser.

I had heard many stories about this place over the years. It always comes up when we talk about rad trips for filming around Whistler because this special place becomes harder to access during the winter since the direct route becomes a trail for snowmobiles. A hunger for powder along with fewer people, colder snow, sick terrain, secret pillow zones, crazy parties, and somewhat general lawlessness pique the interest of sledders and snowboarders alike. Remnants of the mining industry remain along with some decrepit houses, a few dozen in population and limited amenities. It’s eerily close to a modern ghost town but has unlimited opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast. Just make sure to pack in all your supplies... Most of the crew had been to Bralorne before, though I hadn’t been able to make it out there until now and boy, I was not disappointed. Robin and I decided to sled the 45 kilometers over the pass with minimal gear to get some riding in and check some new spots along the way. Helen and our filmer, Ben, would drive the four hours around with all our gear, gas and other necessities for the week and meet us at our friends cabin in town. After a casual afternoon hanging and no-boarding with the Absinthe crew at a more well-known area, Robin and I linked up with photographer, Erin Hogue, and we continued our sled mission to the cabin. Just as the last bit of sun was disappearing we rode into town to see two familiar trucks headed up the road toward us. Sleds are the preferred mode of transport in the winter here, so we joined our friends on the slush-covered road and rallied up to the cabin. We arrived to another friend chopping wood at the cabin, whom we later nicknamed “Braap Man,” and once we got the furnace going, unpacked and settled in, we began making tasty food and watching snowboard videos from the

‘90s on - VHS to get psyched for the week of shredding here. Classics like Decade, Technical Difficulties, the TB movies and Project Haakonsen set the tone for the week. Over the next five days we sledded back and forth on bumpy logging roads to relentlessly hike tasty pillow lines, with plenty of laughing and serious snacking thrown in. We returned to a zone we called “Big Poppa Noobs Land” a few times in order to satisfy our pillow hunger on the endless options. So many pillows were slayed - it seemed like there wasn’t enough time to do them all, but we sure tried! There was a close call with Helen getting buried by a collapsing pillow on one of these visits that made us all very aware of just how isolated we were and how quickly situations can change. So when we woke to a sunny morning we decided to take a break from pillows, take advantage of the sun and explore a new zone. We weaved our way through trees and creeks and finally made it to the alpine for a few fun laps before getting milked out on the jumps we built. During one outing we spent hours building a hip in a snow storm only to find out we couldn’t quite get enough speed. But Braap Man gave us a good show by jumping it on his sled, making all the effort worth it! Every day we chowed on freshly fallen pow and had a freegin’ blast doing it! After the week of non-stop hiking, shredding, sledding and, of course, snacking, we made the call to head home. If we had packed more food and gas, we could have easily stayed another week. But our supplies were exhausted along with our bodies, and with our powder hunger satisfied for the time being, we loaded up our gear in the dark and powered out the 45k back to the trailhead through a blizzard that no doubt would leave more snow for the next crew fortunate enough to make the trip.

Our Delorean looked more like a helicopter, but it had the same effect. I am going to go ahead and call it a dream trip. Seriously, come on, taking tits-deep laps at the epicenter of snowboard culture with legendary females who were our snowboard idols growing up… MAJOR FAN OUT. We hung onto their every word as they told stories about the early contest days and the mayhem of old snowboard trips, them being the only females in a sea of dudes. Tina, in particular, fully time traveled on this trip. She hadn’t been snowboarding in a decade, so to see her decked out in her vintage gear on her firstever free snowboard gifted to her by Tom Sims himself was something special. From Circe and her daughter Ava shredding together to Estelle Pensiero showing us how to actually ride Baldface to Barrett showing us the true meaning of style to our own Full Moon crew slapping fives and making elegant selfies, the entire three days was filled with once-ina-shred-lifetime moments. The entire crew was buzzing on being together under these circumstances and it was inherently a bit of a challenge for our guides. Imagine a cat filled with 16 amping females in epic conditions; herding cats, lassoing wild ponies, trying to catch fish with your bare hands, whatever you want to call it - patience was imperative. Those guys probably went home after four days of guiding and partying with us and slept for week. We kept the lodge up to the early hours of the morning making bonfires, jamming off-key, crowd surfing and chugging beer out of Homey J’s left foot, secondhand shoe. There couldn’t have been a better way to get our heads in the game to start filming the last season of FULL MOON.

t takes a lot to film an amazing snowboard edit. People can spend an entire season working toward this singular goal (and do, all the time). We wanted to see if we could bring together some of our Bonfire guys, shoot off on a loosely-planned road trip, and make a heavy-hitting edit that would stack up against all the rest in just eight days. It worked. We got out there, we got after it, and we did most of it from the (marginal) comfort of a 36-foot RV. This is the story of what that’s like from behind the scenes, from the Team Manager’s perspective - the times it all seemed like it might fall apart, how riders pushed themselves to ride their hardest, continuously, for so many straight days and what it took to pull off all the banger shots we got. Because on a trip like Free Range, there are No Down Days.

Team Manager’s Log: Bonfire Free Range 1. Things seem to be getting off to a good start. Johnny Brady, Ralph Kucharek and Beau Bishop have all made it up to Baker and are out riding on the hill. The weather is really wet but the Northwest is known for that. Danny Kern and Shaun Daley, our filmer and photographer, should be up here tomorrow. I bought a bunch of snacks and picked up seven cases of beer from Montucky down in Seattle. Dustin told me each person could have 24 beers with them when crossing the border, so as long as I did the math right we should be good. First trip of the year, here we go. 2. Woke up this morning to a text from Shaun and Danny around 7 a.m. saying they’re almost in the parking lot. What? That’s impossible. 3. Got to the parking lot to see Shaun and Danny wearing flip-flops in the ice and snow-covered parking lot. Shaun went out partying the night before, showed up at midnight to meet Danny for the first time to tell him he needed to drive the first leg. Danny jumped right in and did it. I like these guys.

Guide extraordinaire Dustin Craven flipping the script

4. Qualification runs started for the Legendary Baker Banked Slalom (LBS). Beau almost rode off a cliff. Not a good thing to do at the beginning of a trip. He told me the story on the lift. Luckily his board was wide enough that it caught along an ice chunk and a boulder at the top of this frozen waterfall he’d started going down. Somehow he hack-climbed his way up. I don’t want to lose Beau, he’s great. Glad he got out OK. 4.b Powder overnight. Now it’s sunny, which is amazing. But it also means there are slides going down off all the steep mountain faces. We found jumps in the woods around resort. Then it got cold. We drove the RV down in to Glacier and camped outside the bar. Hot tubbed. Got tricked into going to Chair 9 while trying to leech their Wi-Fi outside. Oops. 5. I’m the only one that made it to finals day. Lol. All the guys are getting clips though, which is way more key. They’re finding side-hits all over the place and tearing the mountain up. Got some photos to ‘gram, thank god. They’re making paella in the food tent at the top of the race course. It’s so good. 6. Awards are happening… Parker Duke just flew in to Bellingham and it is NUKING snow right now! Everyone wants to stay. How do I get Parker up here? Maybe rent him a car. Can I do that at 6 p.m. on a Sunday?

10. It’s 9 p.m. and we haven’t left Glacier yet. WTF GUYS, LET’S GO. It’ll take a while to reach the border from here. 11. Jk, I was wrong. The border was an hour away. Fuck. Everyone looks stoned as shit. It’s 1 a.m. I’m so tired. People are falling asleep in their chairs. No one is going to Canada. We’re all fucked. 12. We aren’t fucked! Parker is a Canadian citizen now and they let us take all our beer. No one asked about the dog. I’m surprised. I thought someone would ask us about the dog. 13. Parked outside Dustin Craven’s house around 4 a.m. So. Tired. Guys are all out. Good. 14. Dragging. So much coffee. Dustin took us to a breakfast place that reminded me of a Chinese restaurant. Maybe it’s a Canada thing? Made it to Whistler, though. 15. Nix is a boss. Best tour guide ever. The guys love him. Ralph’s been wearing the same LBS hoodie for the entire trip. Johnny never zips his jacket. I’d say they’re killing it. 16. Beau and Dustin definitely sound Canadian. I never thought Canadians had strong accents, but after hanging around with them for a while, they definitely do. I wonder how weird we sound to them? 17. 5:20 a.m. wake-up, on the road at 6 a.m. Arrive at parking lot, smells like fish. Did the impossible - four sleds, eight people, all out in the Squamish backcountry. I’m not going to question it. Just letting things happen. Hitting the Forum step-down. Parker finally landed his trick, so everyone’s got clips now. We all lost it, so sick. No beers at lunch today. There will be beers later. Flipped just one sled. Everyone was fine and so was the sled, except my snowboard got a huge core shot in it. Still works, though. 18. Sushi dinner. Lots of beer. The exchange rate is AWESOME. Let’s order another round! 19. More Whistler time. We’ve been Snapchatting all day but it’s just on my phone so I’m trusting the guys not to lose it while riding. The snaps they’re getting though are fire. Fingers crossed. 20. Danny lost his phone while riding. Sucks. 21. Canadians are awesome! Someone called me from Danny’s phone and he got it back. Thank you, Canada.

22. I’ve never been to Europe, but I feel like partying in Whistler has to be what it’s like. Shots. Beers. Shut that place down. Local Legend, Beau Bishop! I felt really short the whole time. Luckily, Ralph is tall so when I lost the group I just looked for him, like a lighthouse in the dark. 23. Pizza. Love. Pizza. 24. Johnny’s showing us his favorite climbing movie. It’s awesome but it’s also 4 a.m. and we can’t keep our eyes open. Thanks, Johnny. Passing out. 25. Mission to the Ridge! Mission Ridge. Border was a breeze. Still didn’t ask about the dog. Still surprised. 26. Slept in a Wal-Mart parking lot. Ralph is pumped. Breakfast burritos. Went to ride the tow-rope park and ran into the Jetpack ladies. The guys did not want to leave the rope tow. I need to get them away from the rope tow and up to the bowl park. It’s the whole point of coming here and we aren’t even filming in this park. But I don’t want to push them and make it feel like work. Trying to stare them all down super hard to get them to move. Shaun and Danny are not helping. 27. Made it to the Bowl Park! So rad. Eric Baker and the park team made something so cool and unique. I brought the last six pack of Montuckys up and opened one while I watched the guys ride. Really cool lines coming out of this. 28. Watched the sun set on Mission Ridge. Rode down after lifts closed and hung out in the parking lot outside the RV ‘til it got dark. The city near Mission Ridge is weird, but this mountain is a sweet spot. Definitely need to come back. Johnny working out the tranny in Mission Ridge’s bowl park

29. Left The Ridge. Driving home. It’s a long haul. Taking driving in shifts. I finally get to take a break after driving the first stint so I can wake up again and take the last one around 3 a.m. Hoping I don’t roll out of my bunk bed. 30. We made it. Back in Portland in one piece. I can’t believe it. I can’t believe this worked. Holy shit. Time for a nap.

fter four hours in the Barcelona airport drinking beers, watching snowboard videos, annoying all the rental car customers, skating and waiting for DBK’s delayed flight and Jaeger’s lost bags, we were ready to go. Herding the now drunk crew into the rental vans was quite the task. The ordinarily composed Cyril Müller had left his camera bags behind and was skating through the airport with the enthusiasm of an ADHD youth off his meds (shout out to Toshiki for rounding up his gear). Jump to 30 minutes later, and basically everyone is asleep in the van as we push on towards Andorra. We arrive around 11 p.m. and go straight to the bar. 3BTeamWeek is on…

Being fairly detached from normal people’s schedules, I had no idea our team trip coincided with the Easter holiday, one of the busiest times for ski resorts across Europe. We were really lucky to get a place at Tyler Chorlton’s father’s hotel. The fact that there’s a medium-sized night park outside the hotel is also pretty cool. We spent all our afternoons and evenings lapping the T-bar with stops to the sundeck and bar in between. The whole vibe in Andorra is something special. It’s a visually stunning, although barren, mountain landscape lost somewhere in time between France and Spain. The tax-free microstate is co-governed by the President of France and the Spanish Bishop of Urgell, but I don’t think anyone on the trip was thinking about that as we ripped around Grandvalira for the week. No, we were there to have a good time.

The Murph-dog all hopped up on BBQ

It’s always funny working with marketing departments at ski resorts, especially in places that don’t see much traffic from pros or traditional snowboard media. For example, we ended up doing TV interviews about a contest none of our crew was doing in exchange for our tickets. When we showed up to do said interview, they gave the crew these amazing blue headbands and escorted us to a roped off area on the sundeck. Then they brought everyone cocktails. Newcomer, Toshiki Yamane, got a little too tipsy and had to go to bed early… The ever-entertaining Jaeger Bailey, drunk with inspiration, found a log slide near the bathroom. A good-sized crowd gathered to watch what would end up being his ender shot in Absinthe’s new film After Forever. Showing the dudes how it’s done

Shayne, BS 180 into the Andorra abyss

Over the next few days, we built a hip and a quarterpipe, cheered on our creative director Danny as he hit everything in sight, and made a mess of the hotel bar. I’m not sure what night it was, but DBK brought out the tattoo kit at some point and everyone ended up with some fresh ink. The last day in Andorra we went out in a storm and hit some of the heaviest street spots I shot on all year. Toshiki walked away with the MVP honors landing a boardslide to switch on a board he broke the tail off of on the prior attempt. It was nuts. We ended the trip with three nights in Barcelona capped off with a trip to the infamous Nasty Mondays party. If you don’t know about Nasty Mondays, it’s one of the longest running parties in Barcelona, hosted by the absolute legend, Soren Manzoni. It goes down every Monday in Sala Apolo. Do NOT drink the vodka. Things got loose, Shayne missed his flight home, Sean Paul no problem. (ed. note: The gang met a woman on the beach in Barcelona offering to braid hair, an offer which Madison Blackley took her up on. old for the Soul is a pretty simple project; it’s about howwater and its energy go hand-in-hand with snowboarding. It’s about harnessing the adrenaline drive of a fresh snowfall. It’s one of many unifying elements we share. We get completely pumped just by the thought of it. A fresh snowfall is just a whole load of energy waiting for someone to suck it up - that’s what we figure anyway.

As snowboarders, we interact with this energy firsthand. It’s the force that sends us charging down the mountains and through the trees with cheek-stretching grins plastered on our mugs, each face shot leaving us more electrified than the last. It’s this feeling we were determined to shoot with this project. Finding prime conditions is never a sure thing, but when it’s on, it’s on. That’s what Gold for the Soul means, that half-blind, but completely stoked face. It sounds cliché but nevertheless, it’s the truth. Going out and snowboarding connects us to this floating rock we inhabit in a way that most people never experience or imagine. Taking off from all negative influences you could ever think about and getting into a pure mode of enthusiasm. Feeling the power, using the energy, getting after it wherever and whenever you can. It means to go out and live. For real, it’s Gold for the Soul. *The full movie, in all its deep-pow glory, will be out this fall through Different Direction.
