Armstrong Baseball Fieldhouse at Armstrong-Shelley Field
The Armstrong Baseball Fieldhouse is the new home for student athletes and coaches at Armstrong-Shelley Field.
ABOUT THE FIELD
The Armstrong Baseball Fieldhouse was dedicated on Nov. 14, 2015.
Originally dedicated in 1974, Armstrong-Shelley Field first added a press box in 1981, which was remodeled in 1991. The scoreboard was put up in 2005, and the program added lights in 2006. The next upgrades were the addition of chair-backed seats and a covered batting cage in 2008. The field is named after benefactors George and Carolyn Armstrong, and the program’s founder and first head coach, Bruce Shelley. In recent years, the field has seen improvements in turf and irrigation, as well as to the batting cages. In 2014, Carolyn and George Armstrong made an additional gift to build a new baseball fieldhouse.
ARMSTRONG BASEBALL FIELDHOUSE A new home at Armstrong-Shelley Field
The Armstrong Baseball Fieldhouse is behind the home dugout, with easy access from the parking lot. In addition to providing much-needed amenities for the specific use of the Monarch Baseball program, the brick facility gives the student athletes and coaches a new home at ArmstrongShelley Field. The best new feature of the Armstrong Baseball Fieldhouse is the addition of a locker room and showers for our Monarchs. There are new rooms for equipment, laundry, athletic training, and public restrooms. The Armstrong fieldhouse puts them in offices close enough to steal home. There is also a lobby/lounge area for meetings and events, and a covered observation deck atop the facility where students and fans can gather to watch a game or enjoy special events. Additional lounging spots are tucked beside the field house on the wraparound sidewalk, where spectators can take a break from the action during games. At other times, the spots are perfect for students to study, enjoy the weather, and quiet of the nearby scenic pines. The Armstrong Baseball Fieldhouse is a facility that students and alumni can be proud of and puts the program on a level playing field with other teams in the region, improving recruitment and retention.
