WELCOME This brochure will explain the events and programs that have been planned to familiarize new students and their families with Methodist University. Orientation will be held from Friday, August 17, to Sunday, August 19, 2012. Orientation promises to be a funfilled, information-packed three days. Orientation is the first step in ensuring a successful academic and social transition to Methodist University. All new residential and commuting students are expected to participate in all orientation activities.

BUSINESS OFFICE Students who have settled their accounts with the Business Office prior to Friday, August 17, 2012, should check in at the Riddle Center and have their student identification card made before proceeding to their assigned residence halls. It is to the student’s benefit to settle his or her account before coming to campus in August. If you have not settled your account with the Business Office, you should report to the Business Office first. When you have settled your account, you should check in at the Riddle Center before proceeding to your assigned residence hall.

COMPUTER SERVICES The CAC Lab in the Trustees’ Academic Building, Room 375, will be open for use by students. Students should have received an e-mail account and network username and password in a letter from the Admissions Office. If you have not received your e-mail/network account information or have misplaced your information to log into your e-mail, please contact the CAC lab attendant at 910.630.7300 or e-mail help@methodist.edu. To receive assistance with your e-mail account, you will need to provide your full name and student ID number. TRANSFER STUDENTS All new residential transfer students should check in Friday and prepare to participate in all orientation activities. Residential and commuting transfer students should attend the transfer student meeting on Saturday, August 18, from 10:00 a.m.—1:00 p.m. in Hendricks, Room 222. You should plan to attend your academic department session when it is scheduled on Saturday or Sunday.

REGISTRATION FOR PARENTS AND GUESTS All parents and guests who will be attending orientation with their student should register at muorientation2012.eventbrite.com. We ask that you limit guests to parents and immediate family members. ON-CAMPUS HOUSING By now, you should have received your housing assignment and details about housing from the Housing and Residence Life Office. If you have not received your assignment e-mail, you should contact the Housing and Residence Life Office at 910.630.7626.


FOOD SERVICE Food service during orientation will begin with lunch on Friday, August 17 in the Green and Gold Café. Parents and guests are welcome to dine with us during orientation. The Café will be open for regular service hours and the price per meal is listed below. Student meals during orientation in the Green and Gold Café and at special events are provided at no charge. The Lion’s Den will be open Friday and Saturday, August 17 and 18, from 8:00 a.m.—3:00 p.m. Student meal cards will be activated and can also be used at this dining location. The Lion’s Den will open for regular hours on Monday, August 20 from 8:00 a.m.—10:00 p.m. Green and Gold Café: Breakfast & Continental Breakfast, $5.35; Lunch, Brunch, & Lite Lunch, $8.25; Dinner, $9.35.

COURSE SCHEDULING Upon payment of the deposit, a schedule is created for each new student at Methodist University. Schedules will be e-mailed to the student’s Methodist University e-mail address on July 16, July 26 and August 15. Beginning on August 18, adjustments can be made, in consultation with the student’s academic advisor, at the advising meetings that will take place during orientation. FINANCIAL AID Methodist University understands that financial matters are a primary concern to students and their families. The Office of Financial Aid will be open from 8:00 a.m.—5:00 p.m. Friday, 8:00 a.m.—3:00 p.m. Saturday, and from 10:00 a.m.—5:00 p.m Sunday to answer any additional questions. PARKING Parking for parents and residential students with vehicles is available in front of each residence hall, in the lot behind Pearce and West Residence Halls and between the Berns Student Center and the March F. Riddle Center. Parking is not permitted in the fire lanes in front of the residence halls. Parking for commuter students is available in the parking lot next to the Trustees’ Building and between the Berns Student Center and the March F. Riddle Center. All students are required to have their vehicles registered with the Department of Public Safety no later than Friday, August 24. You will have the opportunity to purchase a campus parking permit on Friday, August 17, from 8:00 a.m.—2:30 p.m. in the March F. Riddle Center and on Saturday, August 18, from 8:00 a.m.—3:00 p.m. in the Berns Student Center. Permits cost $175 per year or $95 per semester and may be purchased with cash, check or money order.


METHODIST UNIVERSITY POST OFFICE Students will be able to sign up for a PO box during new student check-in on Friday, August 17, from 8:00 a.m.—2:30 p.m. in the Riddle Center, or at the Post Office in the Berns Student Center on Saturday, August 18, from 8:00 a.m.—3:00 p.m, and on Sunday, from 10:00 a.m.—5:00 p.m..

DEPARTURE FOR PARENTS AND RELATIVES Leaving a son or daughter is an emotional experience. Methodist University recognizes that this is a difficult time and is sensitive to all issues surrounding separation. We encourage parents and relatives to leave the campus at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 19, so your student may begin the transition into university life.

IMMUNIZATIONS North Carolina state law requires all students to submit proof of the following immunizations: three tetanus (DTP), one tetanus booster (T DAP must be within the last 10 years) and two measles, mumps and rubella (MMR). Meningococcal immunization is recommended for students who will reside on campus. Students who have not sent their immunization records to the Student Health Center should do so immediately. STUDENT STORE The Methodist University Book Store in the Berns Student Center will open on Friday, August 17, from 8:00 a.m.—5:00 p.m., and on Saturday, August 18, from 9:00 a.m.—5:00 p.m., and Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

ATTIRE FOR FALL ORIENTATION Dress is casual for orientation. The New Monarchs Banquet on Sunday, August 19, will be semiformal (church attire). Men should plan to wear a coat and a tie. Women should be nicely dressed as well.
