New students will be welcomed by the Dean of Students. There will be short presentations by Academic Affairs and Student Development and Services representatives. GREETINGS   TO NEW STUDENTS AND FAMILIES

Welcome to Methodist University! This brochure outlines important information new students need to know to have a smooth transition into Methodist University.

ON-CAMPUS HOUSING By now, you should have received your housing assignment and details about housing from the Housing and Residence Life Office. If you have not received your assignment e-mail, please contact the Housing and Residence Life Office at 910.630.7626 BUSINESS OFFICE Students who have settled their accounts with the Business Office prior to Sunday, January 6, 2013, should have their Student ID card made on the second floor of the Berns Student Center before proceeding to their assigned residence halls. It is to the student’s benefit to settle his or her account with the Business Office before coming to campus in January. When you have settled your account, you should check in at the Berns Student Center before proceeding to your assigned residence hall. IMMUNIZATIONS North Carolina law requires that students receive the following immunizations: three tetanus (DTP or DT), one tetanus booster (within last 10 years), two measles (MMR or MR), and one rubella (MMR or MR). Students who have not sent their immunization record to the Student Health Center should do so immediately. Call 910.630.7652 or e-mail lfrench@methodist.edu if you have questions. COMPUTER SERVICES The CAC Lab in the Trustees’ Classroom Building, room 375, will be open for use by students. Students should have received an e-mail account and network user name and password in a letter from the Admissions Office. If you have not received your e-mail/network account information or have misplaced your information to log into your e-mail, please contact the CAC Lab attendant at 910.630.7300 or

e-mail help@methodist.edu. Please have the following information available to receive assistance with your e-mail account: student ID number and full name. COURSE SCHEDULING Upon payment of deposit, a schedule is created for each new student at Methodist University. Schedules will be e-mailed to your Methodist University e-mail address shortly after your deposit is received. Adjustments can be made in consultation with your academic advisor. ENGLISH PLACEMENT TEST FOR TRANSFER STUDENTS All transfer students who have taken any English composition course at another institution(s) and are transferring that credit to Methodist University must take the English Placement Test. The English Placement Test score will determine if any English composition review course is mandatory for a transfer student at Methodist University. FOOD SERVICE Food service will begin with dinner on Sunday, January 6th in the Green and Gold Café. Regular food service hours for the Café and the Lion’s Den will begin Monday, January 7. Parents and guests are welcome to dine with us. Residential meal plans begin at dinner on January 7. Commuting students are encouraged to take advantage of the meals offered in the Green and Gold Café. Information about meal plan options for commuting students will be available in the Green and Gold Café. The flexibility and low cost of various meal plans makes Sodexo a convenient option for commuters as well as residential students.

All students are required to have their vehicles registered with the Public Safety Office no later than Monday, January 14. You will have the opportunity to purchase a parking permit Sunday, January 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Monday, January 7, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Berns Student Center. Permits cost $95 for the spring semester and may be paid by cash, check, or money order. POST OFFICE BOX The Methodist University Post Office in the Berns Student Center will be open on Monday, January 7 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and students will need to go by this office to receive their campus mailbox. LODGING FOR PARENTS On-campus accommodations are not available for parents and relatives. A list of area hotels is provided in this brochure. DEPARTURE FOR PARENTS AND RELATIVES Leaving a son or daughter is an emotional experience. Methodist University recognizes that this is a difficult time and is sensitive to all issues surrounding separation. We encourage parents and relatives to leave the campus following dinner Sunday, January 6, so the students may begin the transition into university life.

FINANCIAL AID Methodist University understands that financial matters are a primary concern to students and their families. You are highly encouraged to have federal financial aid forms completed before you arrive in January. PARKING Parking for parents and residential students with vehicles is available in front of each residence hall, in the lot behind Pearce and West Residence Halls, and between the Berns Student Center and the March F. Riddle Center. Parking is not permitted in the fire lanes in front of the residence halls. Parking for commuter students
